Battery in Luggage Compartment
Observe notes on contact corrosion. Refer to => [ Contact Corrosion ] Contact Corrosion.
Removing
- Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
- Remove the rear molded insert - 3 - which holds the vehicle tools located under the luggage compartment floor.
• Ignore - item 1 - and - item 2 -.
- Remove the battery cover - arrow -.
- Remove the molded insert on top of the battery.
- Connect the battery charger for battery assistance mode. Refer to => [ Battery, Preparing for Support Mode ] Battery, Preparing For Support Mode.
- Loosen nut - 1 - a few turns and remove ground cable terminal clamp from battery terminal.
- Loosen nut - 4 - a few turns and remove positive cable terminal clamp from battery terminal.
- Disconnect central gas venting system tube - 5 -.
- Remove the screw - 2 - at battery bracket - 3 -.
- Remove battery from battery console clamping strip on the battery tray.
- Lift battery out of right luggage compartment.
Pollution risk.
• Battery and sulfuric acid disposal regulations must be followed when disposing of batteries.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
• Only maintenance-free batteries conforming to standards TL82506 (as of December 1997) and VW75073 (as of August 2001) may be installed.
• If the vehicle was originally equipped with a deep cycle resistant and leak-proof AGM battery, another AGM battery must be installed when replacing.
• Batteries from the Audi Parts Program have a bottom strip-adapter for adapting to different grip channels. Whether and how bottom strip-adapter is used, refer to operating instructions for battery.
- Insert battery in battery holder.
• The battery carrier tab must engage at the rear - arrow - in the opening in the battery base strip - 1 -.
• It should no longer be possible to move the battery.
• Battery is properly inserted when center notch of battery base reinforcement aligns with threaded hole in battery carrier - arrows -.
- Attach battery bracket.
• Lug at battery bracket must engage in recess at battery base strip.
- Tighten the bolt - 2 - for battery bracket - 3 -.
- Connect central venting system hose - 5 - while observing notes.
With ignition switched off and electrical consumers switched off, connect battery in the following sequence:
- Connect positive cable terminal clamp - 1 - by hand to battery positive terminal + and tighten nut.
- Install the ground cable - 4 - on the battery negative pole - and tighten the nut.
- Check battery after installation for secure seating.
When connecting the battery, perform the following steps:
• Follow the steps before starting the engine. Refer to owner's manual.
• Activate the power window regulator one-touch up/down function. Refer to owner's manual.
• Synchronizing the remote control. Refer to owner's manual.
• Check the DTC memories of all the control units and erase Undervoltage fault if necessary.
• After connecting the power supply, the ABS warning lamp may only go out after the vehicle has been driven a few yards.
