Transverse Link with Mounting Bracket, Manual Transmission
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench 50-200 Nm (V.A.G 1332)
• Locating Pins (T10096)
• Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B)
Removing
- Remove the wheel.
- Remove the lower noise insulation.
- Remove the left front level control system sensor (G78) coupling rod from the control arm, if applicable.
- Remove the nuts - arrows -.
- Pull wheel bearing housing with ball joint out of transverse link.
- Locate the position for the mounting bracket.
- Replace bolt - 1 - for left side, - 8 - for right side using (T10096) and tighten locating pins to 20 Nm.
(T10096) may only be tightened to a maximum of 20 Nm, since otherwise the threads of the locating bolts will be damaged.
- Remove item - 17 - for the left side and item - 10 - for the right side.
- Remove bolts - 1 -.
- Remove the transverse link.
Installing
- Insert the transverse link with the mounting bracket in the subframe.
- Position items - 10 and 17 - but do not tighten them.
- Insert bolts - 1 - and tighten.
- Now replace (T10096) with a new bolt and tighten it.
- Attach the transverse link to the ball joint - arrows -.
- Tighten the transverse link items - 10 and 17 - on the console while in curb weight position. Refer to => [ Wheel Bearing, Lifting to Curb Weight Position ] Wheel Bearing, Lifting to Curb Weight Position.
Further installation is in the reverse sequence to removal.
• Make sure that the ball joint boot is not damaged or twisted.

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Wheel Bearing Housing and Wheel Bearing Unit Overview ] Service and Repair.
- On vehicles with electronically-controlled damping (Audi magnetic ride), reprogram the control position using the Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B).
- Perform headlamp basic setting.
- Axle alignment is required, see Table => [ An axle alignment is necessary when: ] Wheel Alignment.
