Battery in Engine Compartment

Observe notes on contact corrosion => [ Contact Corrosion ] Contact Corrosion.

Removing






- Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

- Remove battery cover - 1 - by pressing release button - arrow -.

- Loosen nut - 3 - a few turns and remove ground cable terminal clamp from battery terminal.






- Loosen nut - 2 - a few turns and remove positive cable terminal clamp from battery terminal.

- Remove the front part - 1 - of the battery cover.

- Pull the battery jacket off.

- Remove hex head bolt - 2 - on the battery retaining bracket - 1 -.






- Remove battery from battery console clamping strip on the battery tray.

- Remove battery from the engine compartment.


Pollution risk.

Battery and sulfuric acid disposal regulations must be followed when disposing of batteries.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

Only maintenance-free batteries conforming to standards TL82506 (as of December 1997) and VW75073 (as of August 2001) may be installed.

Batteries from the Audi Parts Program have a bottom strip-adapter for adapting to different grip channels. Whether and how bottom strip-adapter is used, refer to operating instructions for battery.

- Place the battery into the battery tray so that the retainers on the bottom of the battery fit into the retainer openings in the battery tray - 1 - - arrow -.






It should no longer be possible to move the battery.

Battery is properly inserted when center notch of battery base reinforcement aligns with threaded hole in battery carrier - arrows -.






- Attach battery bracket.






Lug at battery bracket must engage in recess at battery base strip.

- Tighten the bolt - 2 - for battery bracket - 1 -.

- Connect central venting system hose while observing notes.

With ignition switched off and electrical consumers switched off, connect battery in the following sequence:






- Connect positive cable terminal clamp - 2 - by hand to battery positive terminal + and tighten nut.

- Install the front part - 1 - of the battery jacket.

Vehicles without battery monitoring control module (J367)

- Install the ground cable - 3 - on the battery negative pole - and tighten the nut.

Vehicles with battery monitoring control module






- Disconnect the electrical connector - 3 - on the battery monitoring control module - 1 -.

- Connect the ground wire terminal clamp 1 by hand to the battery negative terminal - - - and tighten the nut.

- Connect the electrical connector on the battery monitoring control module.

Continuation for all

- Check battery after installation for secure seating.

When connecting the battery, perform the following steps:

Follow the steps before starting the engine. Refer to owner's manual.

Activate the power window regulator one-touch up/down function. Refer to owner's manual.

Synchronizing the remote control. Refer to owner's manual.

Check the DTC memories of all the control units and erase Undervoltage fault if necessary.

After connecting the power supply, the ABS warning lamp may only go out after the vehicle has been driven a few yards.
