Left Transverse Link with Mounting Bracket, S-Tronic or Automatic Transmission
The same procedure used for removing the right transverse link on vehicles with a manual transmission is used on vehicles with a S-Tronic or an automatic transmission. Removing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Engine/Transmission Jack (V.A.G 1383 A)
• Locating Pins (T10096)
- Remove left front wheel.
- Remove the lower noise insulation.
- Remove the noise insulation, where applicable.
- Remove the diagonal braces, if applicable. Refer to => [ Diagonal Braces ] Front Suspension.
- Remove bracket for exhaust system from the subframe.
- Remove the bolts - arrows - from the heat shield.
- Remove the heat shield from the subframe.
- Remove pendulum support from transmission, to do this remove bolts - 14 -.
- Remove the left front level control system sensor (G78) coupling rod from the control arm, if applicable.
- Position the transverse link console and mounting bracket on the left side of vehicle with the (T10096). Refer to => [ Subframe and Bracket, Securing ] Subframe and Bracket, Securing.
- Remove the nuts - arrows -.
- Loosen bolt - 17 -.
- Now remove the bolts for:
• The steering gear - 3 and 6 -
• The stabilizer bar - 11 and 16 -
- Place (V.A.G 1383 A) below subframe.
- Place for example a block of wood - 1 - between (V.A.G 1383 A) and subframe.
- Remove the bolts - 2, 4, 5 and 12 - and lower the subframe with the brackets as far as necessary.
- Pry the steering gear alignment bushings out of the left bracket.
- Remove the bolt - 17 - and the transverse link from the bracket.
Installing
Installation is the reverse of removal, with special attention to the following:
• Make sure alignment bushings of steering gear fit correctly in console!
Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Subframe, Diagonal Brace, Ball Joint, Stabilizer Bar, Transverse Link, Bracket and Vehicle Level Sensor Overview ] Subframe, Diagonal Brace, Ball Joint, Stabilizer Bar, Transverse Link, Bracket and Vehicle Level Sensor Overview.
• Make sure that the ball joint boot is not damaged or twisted.
- Perform road test after repair work; if steering wheel is crooked while doing this, the vehicle alignment must be performed. Refer to => [ Wheel Alignment ] Wheel Alignment.
Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Subframe, Diagonal Brace, Ball Joint, Stabilizer Bar, Transverse Link, Bracket and Vehicle Level Sensor Overview ] Subframe, Diagonal Brace, Ball Joint, Stabilizer Bar, Transverse Link, Bracket and Vehicle Level Sensor Overview.
Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Wheel Bearing Housing and Wheel Bearing Unit Overview ] Service and Repair.
- On vehicles with electronically-controlled damping (Audi magnetic ride), reprogram the control position using the Vehicle Diagnostic, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B).
- Perform headlamp basic setting.
- Axle alignment is required, see Table => [ An axle alignment is necessary when: ] Wheel Alignment.
