Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1331)
• Brake Pedal Actuator (V.A.G 1869/2)
Removing
When removing, mark brake pads that will be used again. Reinstall in same position, otherwise uneven braking will occur.
- Remove wheels.
- Pry off the securing clip - 1 - for the brake cable.
- Press brake lever - 2 - in direction of - arrow - and unhook parking brake cable - 3 -.
- Remove the brake caliper housing, while counter-holding on guide pins.
- Suspend the brake caliper housing using a bundling wire.
• Do not twist or kink brake hose line.
- Remove brake pads and brake pad retaining springs - arrows -.
• When removing, mark brake pads that will be used again. Install in the same position, otherwise braking effect will be uneven!
- Remove brake pads. Refer to => [ Brake Pads ] Brake Pads.
- Install the (V.A.G 1869/2) between the brake pedal and driver seat. Depress the brake pedal a minimum of 60 mm.
• By doing this, the valves in the brake master cylinder are closed and the brake fluid reservoir does not run empty.
- Connect the hose of a bleeder bottle to the bleeder screw of the removed rear brake caliper, as well as the front brake caliper on the same side of the vehicle.
- Open the bleeder screws.
- Close the front bleeder screw.
- Do not remove (V.A.G 1869/2).
- Unfasten the brake hose from the brake caliper.
Installing
Installation is the reverse of removal, with special attention to the following:
- Install brake pads. Refer to => [ Brake Pads ] Brake Pads.
- Press brake lever - 2 - in direction of - arrow - and engage parking brake cable - 3 -.
- Press on the securing clip - 1 - for the parking brake cable.
- Install brake hose to brake caliper
- After installing a serviced or new brake caliper, the parking brake must be adjusted. Refer to => [ Parking Brake, Adjusting ] Adjustments. After adjusting parking brake, actuate the brake pedal first.
- Bleed the brake system: ABS/ESP Mark 60. Refer to => [ Bleeding Brake System, ITT ABS/ESP Mark 60/ABS Mark 70 ] Bleeding Brake System, ITT ABS/ESP Mark 60/ABS Mark 70.
Tightening Specifications
* Every time the banjo bolt is loosened, replace the brake hose/brake line with banjo bolt
* Always replace
