Fuel Level Sensor, Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hand-Held Multimeter (V.A.G 1526C)

Connector Test Set (V.A.G 1594C)

Test Sequence

Sedan:

- Remove carpeting in luggage compartment.

- Fold forward the right backrest of rear seat, if necessary.

Wagon:

- Remove left 1/3 backrest.

- Remove left side trim in luggage compartment and dirt tray.

All:

- Remove cover - arrows - for locking flange in luggage compartment.





- Disconnect electrical harness connector - arrow - at locking flange.





- Connect Hand-Held Multimeter (V.A.G 1526C) between terminal - 2 - and - 3 - for resistance measurement.









If measured value is 0 ohms there is a short circuit. If measured value is infinite ohms there is and open circuit in the wiring.

To check resistance values "tank full" or "tank empty", the fuel delivery unit must be removed. Refer to => [ Fuel Delivery Unit ] Removal and Replacement and the floater of the sensor must be placed in upper or lower end position.

With Fuel Level Sensor (G) removed, the following values are obtained because of the greater deflection of the floater arm:





Assembly is in reverse order of removal.
