Starting System - Ignition Lock Cover Won't Close

AFFECTED VEHICLES





CONDITION

The hinged covers of the ignition lock switch stick in the open position after the key is removed.

TECHNICAL BACKGROUND

Ignition lock panel may have been distorted when installed.

PRODUCTION SOLUTION

Revised installation procedure.

SERVICE

1. Refer to the instructions in ELSA for Removal and Installation of the Access/Start Authorization Switch Trim. This switch is also known as the ignition switch.

2. Remove the gap cover for the instrument cluster from the instrument panel.

3. Remove the cover for the MMI screen.





4. Loosen the screw (Figure 1, 2) for the panel (Figure 1, 1).

If the cover(s) close when the screw is loosened, then realign the panel for even gapping and tighten the screw.

If the concern has been corrected, no further repairs are necessary. Skip remaining steps.

5. If the problem is not solved by aligning panel (Figure 1, 1), remove the ignition lock using removal pliers VAS 6339.

6. Check for any damage to the panel. Replace, if necessary.

7. with the ignition lock removed, unscrew the three screws of the ignition lock support. Realign the support to ensure even gaps and tighten screws.
