1 Transmission Control Module (TCM) (J217)
• Control module is checked with On Board Diagnostics (OBD).

2 Hydraulic control module
• Installed location, refer to => [ Hydraulic Control Module ]
• Valves are checked with On Board Diagnostics (OBD).
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Hydraulic Control Module ] 01J Transmission.
3 Shift mechanism cover
• Removing and installing, vehicles through VIN 8E 6A156499, refer to => [ Shift Mechanism Cover ] Shift Mechanism Cover.

4 Tiptronic switch (F189)
• Location: Integrated into the circuit board in the shift mechanism cover.
• Consists of 3 Hall sensors that are controlled by a magnet on the cover strip transverse slide.
• If malfunctions at the Tiptronic switch (F189) occur, check first whether the magnet at the control slide masking panel is properly secured and replace the masking panel if necessary. Before replacing the printed circuit, check the wiring.

5 Shift lock solenoid (N110)

6 Data Link Connector (DLC)

7 Cruise control switch (E45)

8 Park/Neutral Position (PNP) relay (J226) (up to 10.04) or starting interlock relay (J207) (as of 11.04)
• Installed location, refer to => [ Power Supply Relay Terminal 87/ and (up to 10.04) or (as of 11.04) ]
9 Power supply relay terminal 87/starter interlock alarm system relay (J60)
• Installed location, refer to => [ Power Supply Relay Terminal 87/ and (up to 10.04) or (as of 11.04) ]
10 Transmission Range (TR) display (Y6)
• A fully illuminated gear selection indicator indicates a simple malfunction.
• A blinking gear selection indicator indicates a critical malfunction.
• No indication on display points to a fault in wiring or a faulty Transmission Range (TR) display (Y6).
11 Kick down switch (F8)
• Not a separate component, it adopts the functions of the Throttle Position (TP) sensor (G79) and the accelerator pedal position sensor 2 (G185), both are integrated in the accelerator pedal module.
• Signal received in the Engine Control Module (ECM), signal transferred from ECM to Transmission Control Module (TCM) via CAN-Bus.
• Removing and installing accelerator pedal module.
12 Brake light switch (F)
• Signal received in the Engine Control Module (ECM), signal transferred from ECM to Transmission Control Module (TCM) via CAN-Bus

Transmission Control Module (TCM) (J217)
• Location: TCM (J217) is on the back end of the transmission, secured directly to the hydraulic control module.
The following components are integrated in the control module:
A Transmission output speed (RPM) sensor (G195) and Transmission output speed (RPM) sensor 2 (G196)
B Transmission fluid temperature sensor (G93)
C Multi-function Transmission Range (TR) switch (F125)
D Transmission input speed (RPM) sensor (G182)
E Automatic transmission hydraulic pressure sensor 1 (G193)
F Automatic transmission hydraulic pressure sensor 2 (G194)

Hydraulic Control Module
• Location: Hydraulic control module is bolted to the back end of the transmission. TCM (J217) is fastened directly to the hydraulic control module.
A Harness connector for the automatic transmission pressure regulating valve 1 (N215)
B Harness connector for the automatic transmission pressure regulating valve 2 (N216)
C Harness connector for the solenoid valve 1 (N88)
The following valves are integrated into the hydraulic control module (not depicted here).
• Automatic transmission pressure regulating valve 1 ( N215) (clutch solenoid valve)
• Automatic transmission pressure regulating valve 2 ( N216) (solenoid valve gear)
• Solenoid valve 1 (N88) (clutch cooling/safety shut off)
• Clutch cooling valve
• Minimum pressure valve
• Pressure relief valve
• Clutch control valve
• Pressure control valve
• The valves are monitored via On Board Diagnostic (OBD).

Shift Lock Solenoid (N110 )
• Location: Shift lock Solenoid (N110) is located in the shift mechanism - arrow -.
Data Link Connector (DLC)
• Location: Diagnostic connection is located beneath the knee bolster on the left of the steering wheel.
Cruise Control Switch (E45 )
• Location: Cruise control switch is located on the steering column switch.
Transmission Range (TR) Display (Y6)
• Location: Integrated in the instrument cluster.
• Transmission Range (TR) display (Y6) can only be replaced as a set with the instrument cluster.
Power Supply Relay Terminal 87/Starter Interlock Alarm System Relay (J60) and Park/Neutral Position (PNP) Relay (J226) (up to 10.04) or Starting Interlock Relay (J207) (as of 11.04)
• Location: On the relay carrier in the E-box, plenum chamber.
Voltage is supplied differently via terminal 87:
1 Starter interlock alarm system relay (J60) - only in vehicles with 2.4 L gasoline engine
3 Motronic Engine Control Module (ECM) power supply relay (J271) - in all other vehicles with gasoline engine
3 Power supply relay (terminal 30, B+) (J317) - in vehicles with diesel engine
4 Park/Neutral Position (PNP) relay (J226) (up to 10.04) or starting interlock relay (J207) (as of 11.04)
• In vehicles as of 11.04, activation of the reverse driving lights occurs via CAN-Bus.
Brake Light Switch (F)
• Location: Brake light switch - arrow - is located in the brake pedal assembly.
• The switch is only to be installed once so as to ensure a firm fit.
Kick Down Switch (F8)
• Location: In the accelerator pedal module - arrow -.
• In vehicles with gasoline engines, kick down switch (F8) adopts the functions of the Throttle Position (TP) sensor (G79) and the accelerator pedal position sensor 2 (G185).
