Affected Vehicles
Condition
This RVU has been proactively released to prevent the following condition from occurring in the vehicle:
On Audi A4 and A5 vehicles manufactured within a specific period it is possible that a warning symbol appears on the display of the instrument cluster indicating difficulties in starting the vehicle due to an apparently insufficient battery voltage.
This Required Vehicle Update (RVU) is in effect until January 12, 2011. After that date, this RVU will expire and no longer be in effect.
Vehicle must meet all of the following criteria:
^ Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the CT / 27C5 code in the ElsaWeb Campaign/Action Information screen on the day of repair.
^ Vehicle must be within the Limited New Vehicle Warranty.
^ Procedure must be performed within the allotted time frame stated in this Technical Service Bulletin.
^ Procedure must be performed on applicable vehicles in dealer inventory prior to sale.
Technical Background
On the vehicles affected, a software update of the battery monitor control unit - J367 - must be carried out.

Tip: It is not necessary to receive an authorization number from the Technical Assistance Center for Required Vehicle Updates. This RVU does not qualify for any B8 launch allowances.
Carrying out software update of battery monitoring system
1. Connect a battery charger to vehicle. Select standby mode on battery charger.
2. Switch off all unnecessary electrical equipment (Radio or MMI, HVAC, seat heater, exterior and interior light, etc.). Also make sure that no electromagnetic interference sources (mobile phone or cordless telephone) are operated in or near the vehicle while individual control units are being updated. Connect vehicle diagnostic, testing and information system VAS 5051 or VAS 5051B or VAS 5052 (with online capability) to the vehicle.
Note:
USB bluetooth adapter VAS 5054 may not be used for the software update.
3. Connect VAS 5051 or VAS 5052 to your workshop network (CPN).
4. Select Guided Functions.
5. Perform a software update of the battery monitor control unit. You will find the program in 19 - Data bus diagnosis interface -J533 >> 19 - Battery monitoring system -J367, Update programming. At the beginning of the program, the up-to-date software version is read.
^ If version software 0150 is stored in the vehicle, a software update is not required.
^ If a version earlier than software 0150 is stored in the vehicle, continue the program.
6. After a certain period, a keypad is displayed on the screen. Enter the following file name: 27c5. The software update will take approximately 5 minutes.
Only the battery monitor control unit is programmed as part of this campaign. Do not perform any updates of other control units. If you receive a message requesting you to check control units, contact Audi of America via TACS. In your ticket, please include the VIN of the vehicle, the name of a contact person with telephone number and the VAS scan tool message you have received from the Audi SVM.
