Transmission Housing Assembly Overview





1 Transmission housing

• If replacing: adjusting the input shaft, refer to => [ Input Shaft, Adjusting ] Adjustments, adjusting pinon/hollow shaft and differential (gear set) => [ Adjustment Overview ] Adjustment Overview

2 Selector shaft seal

• Replacing with transmission installed, refer to => [ Selector Shaft Sealing Ring, with Transmission Installed ] Selector Shaft Sealing Ring, With Transmission Installed

• Can be replaced with transmission removed and not disassembled, refer to => [ Selector Shaft Seal, Transmission Replaced not Disassembled ] Selector Shaft Seal, Transmission Replaced not Disassembled

• Always replace

• Pulling out, refer to => [ Selector Shaft Sealing Ring, Removing from Disassembled Transmission ] Transmission Housing

• Driving in, refer to => [ Driving in Selector Shaft Seal ] Transmission Housing

• Only install with Assembly Sleeve with selector shaft installed, refer to => [ Installing the Seal with the Selector Shaft Installed ] Transmission Housing

3 Outer race/right tapered roller bearing

• For differential

• If replacing: adjusting the differential crown wheel, refer to => [ Crown Wheel, Adjusting ] Crown Wheel, Adjusting

• Removing and installing => [ (Item 3) Outer race for right tapered roller bearing ] Differential Assembly Overview

4 Adjustment shim "S2"

• Note thickness

• Adjustment overview, refer to => [ Adjustment Overview ] Adjustment Overview

5 Bushing

• Secure the magnet => [ (Item 6) Magnet ]

• Drive in, when replacing transmission housing, e.g. with a Punch (VW 408 A)

6 Magnet

• Clean

7 Ball stud, 25 Nm

• Lubricate with Grease (MoS2)

8 Oil drain bolt, 45 Nm

9 Oil seal

• For right flange shaft

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Right Flange Shaft Seal ] Right Flange Shaft Seal

10 Securing bushing

• For 1st and 2nd gear selector rod

• Driving in and out, refer to => [ Removing and Installing the Selector Rod Securing Bushing ] Bearing Housing

11 Securing bushing

• For reverse gear selector rod

• Driving in and out, refer to => [ Removing and Installing the Selector Rod Securing Bushing ] Bearing Housing

12 Ball sleeve

• For 1st and 2nd gear selector rod

• Pulling out, refer to => [ Remove the Front Ball Sleeve from the Reverse Gear Selector Rod ] Bearing Housing

• Install flush with Guide Bolt (10 - 15)

13 Ball sleeve

• For 3rd and 4th gear selector rod

• Pulling out, refer to => [ Remove the Front Ball Sleeve from the Reverse Gear Selector Rod ] Bearing Housing

• Install flush with Guide Bolt (10 - 15)

14 Adjustment shim "S3"

• Note thickness

• Adjustment overview, refer to => [ Adjustment Overview ] Adjustment Overview

15 Outer race/double tapered roller bearing

• For pinion

• Removing and installing => [ (Item 3) Outer race/double tapered roller bearing ] Pinion Shaft and Hollow Shaft Assembly Overview

16 Bolt, 24 Nm

• Secure the input shaft needle sleeve => [ (Item 17) Needle bearing ]

17 Needle bearing

• For input shaft

• Driving out, refer to => [ Removing the Input Shaft Needle Sleeve from the Transmission Housing ] Transmission Housing

• Driving in, refer to => [ Installing the Input Shaft Needle Sleeve ] Transmission Housing

18 Oil collector tray

• With magnet

• Installation location inside the transmission housing, refer to => [ Securing the Input Shaft Needle Sleeve ] Transmission Housing

19 Ball sleeve

• For selector shaft

• Pulling out, refer to => [ Remove Selector Shaft Ball Sleeve ] Transmission Housing

• Driving in, refer to => [ Selector Shaft Ball Sleeve, Driving on ] Transmission Housing

20 Cap

• For transmission breather

21 Breather pipe

• Drive in onto stop

• Unclip transmission breather cap
