Engine oil may be leaking from upper engine area.

Technical Background

Due to the porosity of the cam carrier casting, oil can drain into the thread of the cam bolt and cause an external engine leak.

Production Solution

All bolts are installed with Loctite.

Service

1. Check the bolting of the cam shaft solenoids (N205, N208, N318, N319) to determine the source of the leak.





2. If oil leaks under the solenoid bolt head (Figure 1), remove the bolt.

3. Clean the bolt and the thread in the cylinder head (grease free) and apply Loctite (242) to the thread.

4. Reinstall the bolt and apply appropriate torque (2.5Nm).
