Affected Vehicles





Condition

One or more Daytime Running Light (DRL) LEDs in one headlight assembly are inoperative.

Technical Background





Two possible causes:

^ LED circuit board.

^ DRL control unit, located inside the headlight assembly.

Production Solution

Improved soldering of the LED circuit board after VIN 8R_9A019111 (MY 2009).

Redesign of DRL control unit electronics between VIN FP_AA037500 and FP_AA054981 (MY 2010).

New supplier for headlight assemblies and DRL control unit after VIN FP_AA054982 (MY 2010).

Service

^ If 1 to 11 individual LEDs do not operate, replace the headlight.

^ If all 12 LEDs do not operate, perform the following:

In order to verify the root cause, swap the DRL control unit from the headlight with the inoperative LEDs with the DRL control unit of the operative headlight.

^ If the problem follows, replace the DRL control unit(s).





^ If the problem does not follow, replace the headlight with the inoperative LEDs according to the table above.
