Checking for Leaks

Foam or air bubbles can form in the supply line.

Lack of performance, misfire.

Starting difficulties.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hose Clamps Up to 25 mm Dia. (3094)

Cooling System Tester (V.A.G 1274) with adapter (V.A.G 1274/1 A) and diesel adapter (V.A.G 1274/2)

Banjo Bolt with Seal (VAS 5187/1A) from the Pressure Gauge (VAS 5187)

Procedure

Follow the guidelines for cleanliness. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Fuel Supply System.

- Carefully pull the engine cover off the 4 bolts one after the other - arrows -.






- Remove upper section of the intake manifold.






- Clamp off the fuel return line using a (3094).

- Remove the fuel return line from the high pressure pump - arrow -.

- Attach the (V.A.G 1274/2) and the (V.A.G 1274/1A) to the (V.A.G 1274).






- In place of the fuel return line, attach the (V.A.G 1274/2) to the high pressure pump with the (VAS 5187/1A).

- Install the (3094) at the following locations:






VF Supply hose to the fuel filter
RT Return hose to the fuel system cooler

- Create 1.0 to 1.5 bar pressure using the (V.A.G 1274).






- If pressure decreases continually, search for leaking areas and repair the malfunction.

It is possible to check the fuel lines by moving the hose clamps from the filter to the connections on the fuel tank.

Assemble in reverse order of disassembling. Note the following:

- Tighten the fuel return line from the high pressure pump.
