Rear A/C System Components






Rear A/C System Components

Rear A/C system is installed only in vehicles with Comfort version A/C system as optional equipment.

Air duct in rear heating & A/C unit, refer to => [ Air Duct In Rear Heating & A/C Unit ] Air Duct In Rear Heating & A/C Unit.

Different control motors are installed on rear heating & A/C unit and on associated air channels, these control motors are distinguished by their electrical values and in part number index, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog, therefore mark the control motors before removing (risk of interchange).






1 Rear A/C Unit

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Rear Heating & A/C Unit ] Rear Heating & A/C Unit.

Bringing into service position, refer to => [ Rear Heating & A/C Unit, Bringing Into Service Position ] Rear Heating & A/C Unit, Bringing Into Service Position.

Disassembling and assembling, refer to => [ Rear HVAC Unit ] Rear HVAC Unit.

Bleeding rear cooling circuit after installing, refer to => [ Coolant System, Bleeding ] Coolant System, Bleeding.

2 Rear Fresh Air Blower (V80)

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Rear Fresh Air Blower (V80) ] Rear Fresh Air Blower (V80).

Ensure the correct allocation, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog.

Checking function using Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in "Guided Fault Finding" function.

3 Rear Fresh Air Blower Control Module (J391)

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Rear Fresh Air Blower Control Module (J391) ] Rear Fresh Air Blower Control Module (J391).

Checking function using Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in "Guided Fault Finding" function.

4 Rear Evaporator

Removing and installing with rear heating & A/C unit installed, refer to => [ Evaporator ] Evaporator.

5 Rear Expansion Valve

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Rear Expansion Valve ] Rear Expansion Valve.

Ensure the correct allocation, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog.

Check the function, refer to=> [ Test Requirements ] Test Requirements.

After the A/C compressor is switched off in this vehicle, it may take a relatively long time for the pressure on the high pressure side to decrease (the expansion valve(s) is/are cold, the pressure on the low pressure side increases quickly after deactivation, the expansion valve(s) closes/close and the refrigerant can only flow slowly to the low pressure side).

6 Condensation Drain

7 Right Rear Temperature Door Motor (V314)

With Right Rear Temperature Door Position Sensor (G392)

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Right Rear Temperature Door Motor (V314) ] Right Rear Temperature Door Motor (V314).

8 Pass-Through For Coolant Hoses And Refrigerant Lines

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Pass-Through for Coolant Hoses and Refrigerant Lines To Rear Wheel Housing ] Pass-Through for Coolant Hoses and Refrigerant Lines To Rear Wheel Housing.

Check that coolant hoses are installed correctly.

9 Right Rear Air Door Motor (V240)

With Right Rear Air Door Position Sensor (G390).

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Right Rear Air Door Motor ] Right Rear Air Door Motor (V240).

10 Air Channel At Rear Heating & A/C Unit

11 Rear Heater Core

Remove and install with the A/C unit installed, refer to => [ Heater Core ] Heater Core.

Bleeding rear cooling circuit after installing, refer to => [ Coolant System, Bleeding ] Coolant System, Bleeding.

12 Multi-Pin Connector On Wiring Harness Of Rear Heating & A/C Unit

Harness connector from A/C system wiring harness to vehicle wiring harness.

13 Left Rear Air Door Motor (V239)

With Left Rear Air Door Position Sensor (G389).

14 Left Rear Temperature Door Motor (V313)

With Left Rear Temperature Door Position Sensor (G391).

15 Right Rear Vent Temperature Sensor (G406)

Installed in rear air duct channel, removing and installing, refer to => [ Right and Left Rear Vent Temperature Sensors (G405) and (G406) ] Right and Left Rear Vent Temperature Sensors (G405) and (G406).

16 Left Rear Vent Temperature Sensor (G405)

Installed in rear air duct channel, removing and installing, refer to => [ Right and Left Rear Vent Temperature Sensors (G405) and (G406) ] Right and Left Rear Vent Temperature Sensors (G405) and (G406).

17 Right Rear Heated Seat Temperature Sensor (G95) and Right Rear Seat Heating Element (Z12)

Not all vehicles have heated seats (optional equipment, seat ventilation is not planned as optional equipment).

Activation of seat heater is displayed in measured value block of Rear A/C Display Control Head (E265) using the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in "Guided Fault Finding" function.

On vehicles with seat occupied recognition system, rear seat heater may be switched off after approximately 10 minutes by Rear A/C display control head if recognized that seat is unoccupied. Check using Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS5051 in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

The activation of seat heating differs on vehicles with or without a Rear A/C display control head.

18 Left Rear Heated Seat Temperature Sensor (G94) and Left Rear Seat Heating Element (Z10)

Not all vehicles have heated seats (optional equipment, seat ventilation is not planned as optional equipment).

Activation of seat heater is displayed in measured value block of Rear A/C Display Control Head (E265) using the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in "Guided Fault Finding" function.

19 Rear A/C Display Control Head (E265)

Versions vary (for vehicles with or without seat heating, allocation refer to Electronic Parts Catalog).

If child safety system is active in the vehicle, the Rear A/C Display Control Head does not permit the setting of rear A/C system and seat heater to be modified (when button or rotary switch is operated, three lines appear in both displays), settings can then only be modified via the Climatronic Control Module (J255) and the MMI terminal. Refer to the Owner's Manual.

The Guided Fault Finding of Rear A/C Display Control Head is to be performed as described in Guided Fault Finding of the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS 5051 in "Guided Fault Finding" function.

Buttons and display fields are illuminated by Light Emitting Diodes (LED), cannot be replaced.

From model year 2010, the Climatronic control module with part number 4L0 919,158 from index AA will be installed as a running change. Refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog.

When replacing the Rear A/C display control head pay attention the to the correct allocation of the Climatronic control module (for example, with or without the Setup button). If the allocation is incorrect, it will not be possible to display and select several functions on the A/C system.

20 Vent In Center Console, Rear (Rear Upper Body Vent)

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Vents In Rear Center Console ] Vents In Rear Center Console.

Different oncoming flow (vent is supplied with air from front heating & A/C unit in vehicles without rear heating & A/C unit, from rear heating & A/C unit in vehicles with rear heating & A/C unit).

21 Left B-Pillar/Footwell Shut-Off Door Motor (V212)

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Left B-Pillar/Footwell Shut-Off Door Motor ] Left B-Pillar/Footwell Shut-Off Door Motor (V212).

Left B-Pillar/Footwell Shut-Off Door Motor Position Sensor (G329) installed in Left B-Pillar/Footwell Shut-Off Door Motor.

22 Left Rear Upper Body Vent Motor (V315)

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Left Rear Upper Body Vent Motor (V315) ] Left Rear Upper Body Vent Motor (V315).

Left Rear Upper Body Vent Position Sensor (G471) is installed in Left Rear Upper Body Vent Motor.

23 Right Rear Upper Body Vent Motor (V316)

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Right Rear Upper Body Vent Motor (V316) ] Right Rear Upper Body Vent Motor (V316).

Right Rear Upper Body Vent Position Sensor (G472) is installed in Right Rear Upper Body Vent Motor.

Depending on he version of the Rear A/C display control head (E265) the right rear upper body vent position sensor (G472) may be identified in Guided Fault Finding also as right rear upper body vent motor position sensor (G522).

24 Air Duct To Rear Upper Body Vent

Different oncoming flow (vent is supplied with air from front heating & A/C unit in vehicles without rear heating & A/C unit, an air duct without control motors and doors is installed on these vehicles).

25 Right B-Pillar/Footwell Shut-Off Door Motor (V211)

Right B-Pillar/Footwell Shut-Off Door Motor Position Sensor (G328) installed in Right B-Pillar/Footwell Shut-Off Door Motor.
