Oil Filter: Service and Repair

Engine oil draining and replacing filter

Warning! Oil extraction not permitted with various engine types!

Special tools and workshop equipment required

- Oil extractor - V.A.G 1307 A -
or
- Oil extractor - V.A.G 1358 A -
- Tension band - 2171-1 -
- Oil filter wrench - 3417 -

Note:
- To extract motor oil more quickly, use probe - V.A.G 1358 A/4 - (outside diameter 10 mm).
- Observe waste disposal regulations!

6-Cylinder Gasoline

- To drain oil, remove lower noise insulation on drain plug. Service and Repair

Note:
- Observe waste disposal regulations!
- Avoid engine oil drips on components in engine sequence:
- Oil new O-rings before installation.

- Perform the following steps in the given sequence:



- Remove oil drain plug -1- in threaded cover and drain oil.
- Loosen the threaded cover -2- at the hex head -1- or at the edges and remove it.
- Clean sealing surfaces at cap and at oil housing.

Installing



- Replace the filter element -4- and the seal -3-.
- Install cap -2- with new O-ring and tighten to 25 Nm

Oil, draining

- Open oil drain plug and drain engine oil.
- Install oil drain plug with new gasket.

Tightening Specifications
Oil filter cover 25 Nm
Oil drain plug 30 Nm
