Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Pressure plate (VW 401)

• Pressure plate (VW 402)

• Punch (VW 408 A)

• Punch (VW 412)

• Tube (VW 416 B)

• Tube (VW 516)

• Tube (3146)

• Tube for wheel bearing (3345)

Remove needle bearing - A - from the input shaft





- Mount tube (VW 416 B) over the needle bearing - A - and remove the bearing with the punch (VW 408 A).

Install needle bearing - A - into the input shaft.





- Install the needle bearing - A - into the input shaft to dimension - x -.

• Dimension - x - = 20.5 to 21 mm (except transfer case with V12 TDI engine)

• Dimension - x - = 24.5 to 25 mm (transfer case with V12 TDI engine)

Remove ball bearing - A - from the input shaft





- Remove circlip underneath the ball bearing before removing the ball bearing.

Install ball bearing - A - on the input shaft





• The circlip - B - must be mounted on the input shaft before installing the ball bearing.

- Install the ball bearing - A - all the way onto the circlip - B -.

- After installing the circlip under the bearing, install the input shaft into the groove.
