Instrument Panel Central Tube







Instrument Panel Central Tube

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Pry Lever (80-200)

Removing






Position cable ties that were removed or cut away during removal in same place when installing.

- Remove instrument panel. Refer to => [ Instrument Panel ] Instrument Panel.

- Remove the bolt - 1 -.

- Press Head Range Control Module (J431) bracket upward and disengage to side - arrow -.

- Leave Head Range Control Module (J431) with electrical lines connected in vehicle.

- Remove left and right instrument panel central tube screws - 1 - and - 2 -.






- Remove left and right base bracket with instrument panel fuse carrier - 3 - back from instrument panel central tube.

- Remove the Vehicle electrical system control module (J519).






- Remove the bolts - arrows -.

- Press bracket - 1 - with wiring harness and installed Data Bus On Board Diagnostic Interface (J533) to side.

- Unclip cover - 1 - on the parking brake bearing - arrow - and tip cover to side.






- Remove parking brake screws - 2 - and - 3 -.

- Remove nut - 4 -.






- Release retainer - 3 - and disengage the center instrument panel relay and fuse carrier at the threaded pins for nut - 4 -.

- Slide the center instrument panel relay and fuse carrier upward slightly in order to disengage retaining pin - 1 - at the instrument panel central tube.

Ignore - 2 -.

The retaining frame is shown without the center instrument panel relay and fuse carrier to provide a better illustration.

- Remove ground lines from ground points - 1 - and - 3 - and free them up.






- Using a screwdriver, pry out lock washer - 4 - - arrow - and disengage brace - 2 - at instrument panel central tube.

- Remove nut - 6 - and remove steering column screw - 5 -.






- Remove screws - 1 to 4 - and lay steering column in footwell on a suitable surface.

- Remove screws - arrows - and remove Front Information Display Control Head Control Module (J523).






- Secure Front Information Display Control Head Control Module (J523) at top with electrical lines connected.

- Remove screws - arrows - and remove Front Information Display Control Head Control Module (J523) bracket from instrument panel central tube.













Brace the A/C unit with a suitable support against the body. Otherwise, there is the danger that the A/C unit could come loose from the rubber/metal elements - A - and sag down.

- Remove A/C unit screws - 1 - and - 2 - on instrument panel central tube.






- Press wiring harness clips - arrows - of instrument panel central tube with (80-200).






For easier removal of wiring clips, use silicon-free lubricating spray if necessary.

- Remove the windshield wiper.

- Remove driver side plenum chamber cover.

- Remove plug - 1 - at the left plenum chamber bulkhead.






- Remove instrument panel central tube screw - 2 - through the opening in the plenum chamber bulkhead.








For reinstallation, mark the installation location of the instrument panel central tube in the height and side positions with respect to the left and right angle brackets on the A-pillar.

- Remove instrument panel central tube screws - 1 to 7 -.

2 technicians are needed to remove instrument panel central pipe.

- Tip instrument panel central tube back on upper side.

- Carefully guide the lower instrument panel central tube supports out of the floor covering.

- Remove instrument panel central tube from vehicle interior.

Installing






When installing, position cable ties in same place.

- Check balancing element adjustment nut - 1 - for ease of movement - arrows -.

- Turn adjustment nut all the way down, but do not tighten.

- Insert instrument panel central tube in body.






- When inserting, pedal support braces - 1 - and - 2 - must be engaged in pins - 3 - and - 4 - on instrument panel central tube.

Pins - 3 - are located on inside of instrument panel central tube mount.

- Secure brace - 1 - with a new lock washer.

- Align the instrument panel central tube according to the marks applied during removal on the central tube angle brackets on the A-pillars.

- Tighten instrument panel central tube screws - 1 to 7 -.






Further installation is performed in reverse sequence of removal, but observe the following:

- Install the Front information display control head control module (J523).

- Tighten steering column to instrument panel central tube.

- Install the Vehicle electrical system control module (J519).

Check the installation location of the instrument panel central tube

- Insert instrument panel to test.

- Secure instrument panel at left and right to instrument panel central tube.

- Close front doors.

- Check whether gap dimension between instrument panel and left and right doors is even.

- Check whether height of instrument panel aligns with molding in door trim.

If the adjustment is not correct:

- Note side or height deviation.

- Remove instrument panel again.

- Loosen instrument panel central tube screws.

- Adjust instrument panel central tube according to noted deviations.

- Tighten instrument panel central tube screws - 1 to 7 -.






Installation procedure






When tightening the screw, the adjusting element adjusting nut turns by itself against the plenum chamber bulkhead mounting point and secures the instrument panel central tube in the specified position.

- Tighten instrument panel central tube screw - 2 - through the front opening in the plenum chamber bulkhead.

- When tightening, do not press on screw so that adjusting element adjusting nut can turn freely.

- Seal the opening in the plenum chamber bulkhead with plug - 1 -.

Ignition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (for example, airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. Maintain personal safety when connecting the battery by staying out of airbag deployment areas, keeping a distance from belt tensioners/seat belts and ensuring no other people are in the vehicle interior at the moment when the battery is connected.

- Switch on ignition.

- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on.

- If the Airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the Vehicle diagnostic tester.

Additional Tightening Specifications
