Brake Pads







Brake Pads

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque wrench (V.A.G 1576)

Piston resetting tool (T10145)

When removing, mark brake pads that will be used again. Install in the same position, otherwise braking effect will be uneven!

Removing

- Remove wheels.

- Separate the connector - 1 - for brake pad wear indicator.






- Unclip the cable for the brake pad wear display from the spring in the brake caliper.

- Remove the brake hose from its mount on the stub axle carrier.

- Using pliers, slightly push the brake piston on the installed brake pads.

When loosening the brake caliper, do not loosen the brake hose.

- Loosen the brake caliper bolts from the stub axle carrier.

- Pull the brake caliper from the brake disc.

- Hang the brake caliper on the body using a suitable wire.

- Pry the brake pads out of the brake caliper with a screwdriver - arrows -; be sure not to damage the dust caps.






- Remove the brake pads from the retaining springs.

Installing

- Clean brake caliper.

Only use commercially available brake cleaner to clean the brake caliper housing.

Before pressing pistons into cylinder using piston resetting tool, brake fluid must be extracted from brake fluid reservoir. Otherwise, especially if reservoir has been topped off, fluid will overflow and cause damage.

Brake fluid is poisonous. NEVER siphon brake fluid with your mouth!

- Press piston back with (T10145).

- Remove any protective film from the brake pad backing plate.

- Install the pad retaining spring into the brake caliper. Make sure they fit correctly.

- Install the retaining spring for the brake wear display cable into the center of the brake caliper.

The clip for the brake wear display cable faces outward.

- Install brake pads inside the brake caliper and push them onto the pad retaining bolts - arrows -.






The brake pad must fit in the retaining spring and bolts correctly.

- Mount the brake pads onto the contact surfaces of the pad retaining springs.

- Carefully place the brake caliper over the brake disc.

- Clean the bolt ribbing.

- Replace damaged bolts.

- Tighten the brake caliper bolts to the stub axle carrier to 180 Nm.

- Press the brake hose into the mount on the stub axle carrier.

- Connect the brake pad wear display connector - 1 -.






- Secure the brake pad wear indicator connector.

- Install the cable for the brake pad wear display into the spring in the brake caliper.

- If necessary, close the cable clip on the spring.

The cable for the brake pad wear display may not lay open.

- Install wheels.

After replacing brake pads and before moving vehicle, always depress brake pedal several times firmly to properly seat brake pads in their normal operating position.

Check brake fluid level after replacing brake pad.
