Condenser

Condenser

Different versions of the condenser are available depending on the vehicle version. Refer to Electronic Parts Catalog.

Removed condenser contains refrigerant oil which must be restored to the refrigerant system.

The radiator and condenser may have small indentations on the fins even when installed correctly. It is not damage. Do not replace the radiator or condenser because of those small indentations.

Removing

- Discharge the refrigerant circuit.

- Disconnect refrigerant lines from condenser, refer to => [ Condenser Refrigerant Lines, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Condenser Refrigerant Lines, Disconnecting and Connecting.

Seal open pipes and connections at condenser with suitable caps (to prevent dirt and moisture from entering).

- Remove upper radiator cover and fan shroud with coolant fans.

- Disengage radiator - A - (water cooler) from lock carrier - C - and swivel radiator with coolant lines connected as far downward as possible (disengage and tilt, do not remove radiator, do not open cooling circuit).

Radiator is locked on left and right sides with clips (press clips against locking mechanism - arrow - to remove).

Radiator is secured to lock carrier with bolts - 2 - on left and right sides.

- Unscrew bolt - 2 - on rear side of radiator (on bracket for lines to power steering cooler).

- Disengage power steering cooler - 1 - on A/C system condenser (power steering hydraulic lines remain connected) and set it down on lock carrier.

Lines to power steering cooler must not be kinked under any circumstances.

- Unscrew bolt - 1 - on back of radiator (ATF cooler hydraulic lines remain connected).

- Press off retaining clips - 2 - and - 3 -.

- Remove ATF cooler - 4 - from radiator, ATF lines remain connected and secure transmission oil cooler - B - to lock carrier.

Lines to ATF cooler - 4 - must not be bent or kinked under any circumstances.

- Unscrew bolts - 3 - on back of radiator (on connection block of condenser - 1 -).

- Press off retaining clips - 2 - and - 4 - (top illustration) and remove bolts - D - (bottom illustration, versions vary).

- Disengage straps of condenser - F - from mounts on radiator - E -

- Remove condenser - B - upward, while doing this pay special attention to connection block - D - of condenser.

Depending on version of vehicle (of engine), it may be necessary to bring lock carrier - C - into service position (pull approximately 10 cm forward) in order to have sufficient clearance between radiator - A - and lock carrier - C - to remove connection block - D - of condenser. Radiator Support

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following.

- If necessary, top off refrigerant oil quantity in refrigerant circuit.

- Following attachment, check routing of refrigerant pipes. They must be inserted in holders provided and not make contact with other components.

The hose connections and the hoses for the charge are system must not have any oil or grease on them prior to installation.

Secure all hose connections with hose clamps used in series production. Refer to Electronic Parts Catalog.

- Install fan shroud.

- Install remaining components.

- Evacuate and re-charge refrigerant circuit.

- Operate the A/C system after filling the refrigerant circuit, refer to => [ A/C System, Operating after Filling Refrigerant Circuit ] A/C System, Operating after Filling Refrigerant Circuit.
