Air Quality Sensor (G238)

Air Quality Sensor (G238)

The air quality sensor is a highly sensitive electronic component that can be damaged if it comes in direct contact with solvents, fuels or chemicals (for example, impurities may enter through area - A -). For this reason, never fit sensors which have been kept in tool chests or the like.

The air quality sensor is installed only on vehicles with a Comfort version A/C system

Following removal, do not set down sensor in areas where it could come into contact with solvents, fuels or certain chemical compounds (liquids or vapors).

There are different versions of the air quality sensor, each with different functions. Make sure the allocation is correct. Refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog.

Removing

- Remove left-side air intake grille.

- Lift plenum chamber cover up slightly on left side.

- Disconnect connector - 1 -.

- Unclip air quality sensor - 1 - from bracket on plenum chamber cover - arrow -.

Terminal assignment on connector to air quality sensor - A -.

1 B+ (terminal 15)
2 Ground (terminal 31)
3 Signal wire to Climatronic Control Module (J255).

The air quality sensor measured value is displayed in the Climatronic control module. The square wave signal cannot be evaluated using workshop equipment such as Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS5051 in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

Installing

Installation is carried out in the reverse order while noting the following:

The air quality sensor contains a highly sensitive electronic component which can be damaged if it comes in direct contact with solvents, fuels or chemicals. Therefore do not install sensors that were previously stored for example, in tool boxes.
