Vehicle Alignment Overview






Vehicle Alignment Overview

Vehicle must only be measured at curb weight. Refer to => [ Vehicle Alignment Test Requirements ] Vehicle Alignment Test Requirements!

Check which suspension is installed in the vehicle. This information can be found on the vehicle data plate. Refer to => [ PR Number Explanations ] Application and ID.

Observe the following work sequence!

1 Drive the vehicle onto the alignment rack without tension. Move the vehicle back and forth if necessary to relieve any tension on the axle components.
2 The steering wheel must be "evened out" into the center position before beginning the measuring and adjusting. Use steering wheel scales (VAS 6458) for this.
3 If necessary, check steering rack center position. Refer to => [ Steering Rack, Checking Center Position ] Steering Rack, Checking Center Position.
4 On vehicles with air suspension, check axle alignment control position. Refer to => [ Axle Alignment Control Position on Vehicles with Air Suspension, Checking ] Axle Alignment Control Position on Vehicles With Air Suspension, Checking.
5 Perform wheel run-out compensation. Refer to => [ Wheel Run-Out Compensation ] Wheel Run-Out Compensation.
6 Check front axle caster, adjust if necessary. Refer to => [ Front Axle Caster, Adjusting ] Front Axle Caster, Adjusting.
7 Check front axle camber and adjust if necessary. Refer to => [ Front Axle Camber, Adjusting ] Front Axle Camber, Adjusting.
8 Check front axle toe and adjust if necessary. Refer to => [ Front Axle Toe, Adjusting ] Front Axle Toe, Adjusting.
9 Check rear axle camber and adjust if necessary. Refer to => [ Rear Axle Camber, Adjusting ] Rear Axle Camber, Adjusting.
10 Check rear axle toe and adjust if necessary. Refer to => [ Rear Axle Toe, Adjusting ] Rear Axle Toe, Adjusting.
11 Check front axle toe angle again and adjust if necessary. Refer to => [ Front Axle Toe Angle, Checking and Adjusting ] Front Axle Toe Angle, Checking and Adjusting.
12 If adjustments have been made on the rear axle, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) adjustment is required. Refer to => [ Adjustment Procedure using ] Adjustment Procedure Using ACC Setting Device (VAS 6190) or => [ Adjustment Procedure Using ] Adjustment Procedure Using ACC Setting Device (VAS 6430)
13 If the rear axle adjustments have been changed, then is it necessary to calibrate the lane assist. Refer to => [ Lane Assist Calibration Procedure ] Lane Assist Calibration Procedure
14 If adjustments have been made on the suspension, perform a zero adjustment on the steering angle sensor (G85) using the => Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051 B).
