Engine - Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair






Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor

Removing

- Pull rear engine cover off - arrows -.





- Disconnect electrical connector - 2 - at Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor 2 (G246).





- Remove left air guide hose - 1 - from air duct.

- Release retaining clips - 3 - and remove upper left section of air filter housing.

- Disconnect hose - 1 - to Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump.





- Disconnect electrical harness connector - 4 - at Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor (G70).

- Remove right air guide hose - 3 - from air duct.

- Release retaining clips - 2 - and remove upper right section of air filter housing from lower section.

Vehicles with air suspension:

If necessary, remove electrical connector for Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 2 (G108) from bracket at right strut tower for better access.

- Press circlip - 1 - forward from hose coupling.





- Press release ring - 2 - down - arrows - and remove vent hose - 3 - from upper section of air filter.

All Vehicles

- Disconnect vacuum hose - arrow - to suction jet pump.





- Remove hose - 2 - to Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve (N80).





Ignore - 1 - and - 3 -.

- Remove Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge regulator valve (N80) from bracket and lay aside with lines connected.

- Disconnect the vacuum hose - 4 -.





Risk of violating emissions legislation.

Do not open hose connection - 2 -!

- Lay the air guide hose aside with the vacuum hose connected.

- Loosen hose clamp - 1 - and remove bolts - 3 -.

- Remove air guide pipe to right.

- Disconnect electrical connector - arrow - at Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor (G62).





Place a rag beneath to catch escaping coolant.

- Remove retaining clip and remove Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor (G62).

To improve clarity, the removed engine is shown.

Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following:

Replace O-ring.

Secure all hose connections with hose clamps appropriate for the model.

- Insert Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor (G62) as quickly as possible so that coolant does not escape unnecessarily.

- Check coolant level => [ Check coolant level. ] Service and Repair.
