Coil Spring Suspension Strut
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque Wrench 50-200 Nm (V.A.G 1332)
• Engine-/Gearbox Jack (V.A.G 1383 A)
• Bits (T10099) or Bits (T10099/1)
• Wheel Hub Support (T10149)
• Ball Joint Puller (T10187)
Removing
- Remove the wheel.
- Remove the bolt - 2 -.
- Disconnect drive axle from rear final drive. Use (T10099) or (T10099/1) to loosen bolts - 3 -.
- Remove the nut from tie rod end and press tie rod end off of wheel bearing housing.
- In vehicles with level control system sensor, remove nut - 2 -.
- Remove brake hose with bracket from wheel bearing housing.
- Turn the wheel hub until one of the holes for the wheel bolts is on top.
- Install (T10149) with wheel bolt on the wheel hub.
- Support wheel bearing housing over (T10149) with (V.A.G 1383 A).
• Do not lift or lower vehicle with engine/transmission jack below vehicle.
• Do not leave (V.A.G 1383 A) below vehicle any longer than necessary.
- Remove nut from the upper control arm and press arm off.
- Remove suspension strut from body - arrows -.
- Remove connector nut - 1 -, suspension strut to lower control arm.
- Do not lower wheel bearing housing more than necessary.
- Remove bolt - 1 - from the lower control arm and remove suspension strut.
Installing
Installation is the reverse of removal, with special attention to the following:

- Wheel bearing, lifting to curb weight position on vehicles with coil springs. Refer to => [ Wheel Bearing in Curb Weight, Lifting Vehicles with Coil Spring ] Wheel Bearing In Curb Weight, Lifting Vehicles With Coil Spring
- Perform a basic setting on the headlamps if the vehicle has automatic head lamp range control.
