Left and Right Release Cable

The left and right release cables cannot be replaced separately.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Pop Rivet Pliers (V.A.G 1753A)





Removal

CAUTION!
Follow the safety precautions for pyrotechnic components.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity ". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

- Remove seat:

Manual seats, refer to => [ Seat ] Manual Seats.

Power seat, refer to => [ Seat ] Power Seats.

- Secure the seat on the (VAS 6136), refer to => [ Installing Seat On VAS 6136 ] Installing Seat on VAS 6136.

- Remove backrest cover panel, refer to => [ Backrest Cover ]. Backrest Cover





- Remove the headrests, refer to => [ Headrests with Locking Mechanism ]. Headrests With Locking Mechanism

- Remove trim with Easy Entry handle, refer to => [ Trim with Entry Assistance Handle ]. Trim With Entry Assistance Handle

- Remove cover and padding from backrest, refer to => [ Backrest Cover and Upholstery ] Seat Covers and Upholstery.

The lumbar support does not need to be removed when removing and installing the release cables.

- Press the Easy Entry handle lever - 3 - and fold the backrest - 1 - forward.

Disregard item - 2 -.

- Using pliers, disengage eyes - 2 - (quantity: 2) from pins - 3 - (quantity: 2).





- Remove the left and right rivets - 4 - from the backrest frame - 5 - by drilling them out at the release bracket - 1 -.

- Open cable ties on both sides.

- Disengage pull-spring - 1 - from bracket - 3 -.





- Press the retaining tabs - 2 - and pull the bracket - 3 - down out of the backrest frame - 4 -.

- Turn the knob - 2 - in the - direction of the arrow - until the nipple on the release cables - arrow A - is horizontal to the center of the backrest.





- Hold the knob firmly in this position.

- Press the knob up out of the lever - 1 -.

- Guide the knob through the release opening - arrow B - in the backrest frame - 3 -.

- Remove left and right release cables from backrest frame.

Installation





Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following:

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity ". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Ensure that electrical connections are pushed in as far as stop and engage with a click.

- Make sure the release cables - 3 - run behind the retaining plates - 1 - and - 2 - on the backrest frame - 4 -.

- Adjust the release cables with the release adjusters, refer to => [ Entry Assistance Release Cables, Adjusting ] All Seats Overview.

- Make sure the pins - 3 - release at the same time when the Easy Entry handle is pressed.





- Switch on ignition.

CAUTION!
Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Disconnect the battery ground wire with the ignition switched on.

If Airbag Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) (K75) indicates a fault after installation, DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again.
