Affected Vehicles





CONDITION

This RVU has been proactively released to prevent the following condition from occurring in the vehicle:

On Audi R8 vehicles with 4.2L engines manufactured within a specific period, software updates must be performed for various control modules.

The required modifications are:

^ Engine control module (address word 01 and 11): diagnosis of knock sensors, optimization of gearshift response on R tronic(R).

^ Gearbox control module (address word 02): optimization of gear shift response on R tronic(R).

^ B&O Sound System: optimization of switch-off in case of low voltage.

This Required Vehicle Update (RVU) is in effect until June 30, 2011. After that date, this RVU will expire and no longer be in effect.

Vehicle must meet all of the following criteria:

^ Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the 24R4 code in the ElsaWeb Campaign/Action Information screen on the day of repair.

^ Vehicle must be within the Limited New Vehicle Warranty.

^ Procedure must be performed within the allotted time frame stated in this Technical Service Bulletin.

^ Procedure must be performed on applicable vehicles in dealer inventory prior to sale.

SERVICE

1. Follow all instructions in the attached TSB 2011732 00 Software Version Management (SVM), operating instructions.

2. Update the engine control module (criterion 01), the gearbox control module (criterion 02), and the B&O sound amplifier (criterion 47) using the SVM action code as listed in the table below if necessary.





Tip: Only the engine control module (criterion 01), the gearbox control module (criterion 02), and the B&O sound amplifier (criterion 47) are flashed as part of this RVU. Do not perform any updates of other control modules.

Tip: Vehicles with part number 420 035 223A cannot be updated, so the amplifier will require replacement. Vehicles with part number 420 035 223D have the improved software.
