Centering Steering

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)

• Bolt for steering centering (VAS 6224)

Power steering gear shown in sections:





1 Screw plug: 22 Nm
2 Install (VAS 6224) as far as possible by hand.
3 Steering rack
4 Steering gear housing

- Remove the bumper trim - 1 -.





- Remove the headlamp/wheel housing liner trim - 2 -.

- Remove the cowl panel trim - 3 -.

- Remove the luggage compartment trim - 4 -.

- Remove the battery.

- Remove the locking bolt - arrow - on the power steering gear.





- Move steering wheel slightly out of the center position.

- Have a second technician turn (VAS 6224) - 2 - in power steering gear - 4 - until he feels it engage in steering rack centering hole - 3 -.
