Fuel Level Sensor, Checking

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Hand-Held Multimeter (V.A.G 1526C)

Connector Test Set (V.A.G 1594C)

Test Sequence

- Remove rear seat bench.

- Remove cover - arrows - for right locking flange.





Audi RS4:

- Remove electrical wires with connector - arrow - from locking flange opening and lay them aside.





All:

- Disconnect electrical harness connector - arrow - at right locking flange.





- Connect Hand-Held Multimeter (V.A.G 1526C) between terminal - 2 - and - 3 - for resistance measurement.









If measured value is 0 ohms there is a short circuit. If measured value is infinite ohms there is and open circuit in the wiring.

To check resistance values "tank full" or "tank empty", the Fuel Level Sensor (G) must be removed. Refer to => [ Fuel Level Sensor ] Service and Repair and the floater of the sensor must be placed in upper or lower end position.

With Fuel Level Sensor (G) removed, the following values are obtained because of the greater deflection of the floater arm:
