Sunroof Panel
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Electric cutter (V.A.G 1561A)
• Universal cutting blade (V.A.G 1561/11)
• Cutting blade (58 mm) (V.A.G 1561/2)
• Cutting blade (L-shaped, 25.4 mm) (V.A.G 1561/22)
• 2 x double cartridge pistols (VAS 5237)
• Wet and dry vacuum cleaner (VAS 5128)
Materials for installation
• Panel 1 and panel 3 are bonded firmly to roof module and can only be cut out.
• Panel 1 cannot be removed without destroying it unless windshield is removed.
Removing and installing bonded cover
Keep adhesive surface free of dirt and grease. Only cut back adhesive surface shortly before installation. Do not prime or use a cleaning solution on the adhesive surface.
Make sure there is a slight overlap at adhesive joining points, otherwise there may be leaks in these areas.
Bonded panel must be inserted in the vehicle within a maximum of 10 minutes after start of application, otherwise the bonding properties of adhesive sealant material will be impaired.
Observe minimum curing times for bonded panel, refer to
1 Adhesive Bead for Panel 1
• Cut back only just before installing a new panel.
• Apply new adhesive onto residual bead on body.
2 Panel 1
• It is not possible to remove the panel 1 without damaging it.
• Use two (V.A.G 1351/1) and the cutting wire 357 853 999 A to remove panel 1
• Remove the molding on the front of the panel as well as on both sides 1 using a sharp carpet knife.
• Open the panel 2 all the way to the rear.
• Place the cutting wire between the glass panel 1 and the sunroof.
• Seal the top of the roof frame with tape to protect the paint.
• Attach the ends of the wire to the handles and cut the adhesive all the way through.
• When installing, panel 2 must be installed and closed.
• Clean new panel in adhesion area and prime.
• Apply adhesive onto residual adhesive bead.
• Insert panel into roof cutout.
• Align panel and press it evenly into roof cutout to stop.
• Secure panel in roof cutout with adhesive tape.

• Bonded to roof module.
• Panel 2 removed.

Cover neighboring paint surfaces with fabric-reinforced adhesive tape to protect against damage.
• Cut through adhesive along side wall frames using (V.A.G 1561A) and (V.A.G 1561/22).
• Cut through adhesive bead on rear edge of panel 2.
• Cut through adhesive bead on forward edge of panel 3 using (V.A.G 1561A) and (V.A.G 1561/2).
• Lift panel out of roof cutout using a suction lifter.
• When installing, panel 2 must be installed and closed.
• Clean new panel in adhesion area and prime.
• Apply adhesive onto residual adhesive bead.
• Insert panel into roof cutout.
• Align panel and press it evenly into roof cutout to stop.
• Secure panel in roof cutout with adhesive tape.

• Cut back only just before installing a new panel.
• Apply adhesive onto residual adhesive bead on body.
Minimum curing times for bonded sunroof panel
Removing and installing moving panel
- To remove, open sunroof completely.
Pull off cover - 1 - on body side from sunroof module to the side toward vehicle center.
- Tilt open sunroof and pull off cover - 2 - to the side from sunroof panel - 1 -.
- When installing, slide panel - 1 - sideways into retaining rail - 2 - on panel.
- Remove bolts - arrows - on both sides of guide plate - 1 -.
- Remove panel upward out of cutout.
- When installing, tighten bolts to 3.5 Nm.
Glass sunroof panel, adjusting
- Perform height adjustment at front and rear according to illustration to prevent wind noise.
- Check height adjustment at each point, left and right, where rounded portion of roof opening merges with straight portion.
- Sunroof panel should not be higher than roof at any point at front or lower than roof at any point at rear.
- When adjusting sunroof panel height, start by running sunroof from open position (not tilted open) into closed position.
Adjusting
- Loosen bolts - 1 -; - 2 - and - 3 - a few turns.
- Adjust panel.
