Engine Support (T10359)

Tightening Specifications

The tightening specifications apply only to lightly greased, oiled, phosphated or blackened nuts and bolts.

Additional lubricants, such as engine or transmission oil are permissible, although lubricants containing graphite are not.

Do not use any ungreased parts.

Tightening specification tolerance +/- 15%.

Mounting, S-Tronic Transmission to Engine











Procedure

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Engine mounted on the (T10359).

Replace self-locking nuts and bolts.

Always replace bolts that are tightened to torque as well as O-rings and gaskets.

Secure all hose connections with hose clamps of the same type as those equipped by the factory.

During installation, cable ties must be installed at the same location.

- If no alignment sleeves for center the engine and transmission are present in the cylinder block, insert sleeves.

- Make sure the intermediate plate is engaged on the sealing flange and slid onto the guide sleeves - arrows -.






- Attach transmission to engine.

- Guide the engine/transmission subassembly into the body.

- Then install engine mounting to engine support bolts - arrows - and tighten by hand.






Vehicles with a Manual Transmission






- Install the transmission mount bolts in the transmission console - arrows - and tighten them by hand.

Vehicles with S-Tronic Transmission






- Install the transmission mount bolts in the transmission bracket - arrows - and tighten them by hand.

All Vehicles

Only tighten the bolts to the specification when installing the subframe mount. Refer to => [ Subframe Overview ] Subframe Overview.

- Remove the (T10359) from the engine.

- Install drive axles.

- Install the drive axle heat shield.

- Install the control arms.

- Install the pendulum support. Refer to => [ Subframe Overview ] Subframe Overview.






Vehicles with a Manual Transmission

- Selector mechanism, installing and adjusting.


Risk of damaging clutch slave cylinder.

Do not press the clutch pedal when the clutch slave cylinder is removed.

- Install clutch slave cylinder.

Vehicles with S-Tronic Transmission

- Install selector lever cable.

All Vehicles

- Installing front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter. Refer to => [ Front Exhaust Pipe with Catalytic Converter ] Service and Repair.

- Install exhaust system free of stress. Refer to => [ Exhaust System, Aligning ] Procedures.

- Install after-run coolant pump (V51). Refer to => [ After-Run Coolant Pump (V51) ] After-Run Coolant Pump (V51).

- Install Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor.

- Install fan shroud. Refer to => [ Fan Shroud ] Service and Repair.

- Install the ribbed belt. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt ] Ribbed Belt.

- Install starter.

- Install the throttle valve control module (J338).

- Adjust the subframe mount. Refer to => [ Subframe Mount, Adjusting ] Adjustments.

- Electrical connectors and wiring routing.

- Install the battery.

- Install wiper arms.

- Check oil level.


There is a risk of destroying control modules with excess voltage.

Do not use a charger as a starting aid.

- Connect the coolant hose to the coupling. Refer to => [ Connect the Coolant Hose to the Coupling ] Radiator and Coolant Fan Overview.






- Fill with coolant => [ Filling ] Service and Repair.

Do not use drained coolant in the following situations:

If the cylinder head or cylinder block was replaced.

If the coolant is contaminated.
