Transmission, Installing

Procedure

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

Transmission installation tightening specifications.

The right flange shaft must be removed in order to install the transmission.

Replace bolts that are tightened to the specification.

Replace self-locking nuts and bolts and seals, gaskets and O-rings.

The hose connections as well as the air guide pipes and hoses must be free of oil and grease before installing.

Secure all hose connections with hose clamps of the same type as those equipped by the factory. Refer to the electronic parts catalog ETKA.

To secure the air guide hoses on their connections, spray the clamps used previously with rust remover before installing.

When installing, bring all cable ties back to same positions.

- Clean input shaft splines and hub and remove corrosion.

- Apply the clutch disc shaft spline grease very lightly to the splines; clutch disc shaft spline grease. Refer to the electronic parts catalog ETKA. Remove any excess grease.

- Check if the alignment sleeves - A - for centering the engine/transmission are in the cylinder block and insert them if they are not.





- Check the flange shaft seals for leaks; replace if necessary. Refer to => [ Left Flange Shaft Seal ] Left Flange Shaft Seal or => [ Right Flange Shaft Seal ] Right Flange Shaft Seal.

- If the transmission is going to be replaced, determine if the flange shafts need to be replaced before installing the new or replacement transmission. Refer to the electronic parts catalog ETKA.

- Make sure the intermediate plate is engaged on the sealing flange and pushed onto the alignment sleeves.

- Carefully raise the transmission with the (V.A.G 1383 A) and bring it into the installation position using the (3282), at the same time, guide the selector lever cable into the support bracket.





- Insert transmission without pinching any lines.

- Attach transmission to engine.

- Install the subframe mount as follows:

- Install the transmission support - A - between the transmission and the transmission mount support arm.





- Attach the transmission support to the transmission with new bolts - 1 -.

- Lift the transmission to the transmission mount support arm using the spindle on the (10 - 222 A).

- First install the bolts - 2 - for the transmission mount to the transmission support hand-tight only.

- Remove the (3282) from the transmission.

- Install the flange shafts. Refer to => [ Left Flange Shaft ] Left Flange Shaft or => [ Right Flange Shaft ] Right Flange Shaft.

- Install the left ball joint.

- Install left front level control system sensors (G78).

- Install the drive axle.

- Install selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable ] Selector Lever Cable.

- Install pendulum support. Refer to => [ Pendulum Support ] Pendulum Support.





- Install the exhaust system free of tension.

- Starter, Installing.

- Install the fan shroud.

- Remove subframe. Refer to => [ Subframe Mount Overview ] Subframe Mount Overview.





- Tighten the transmission mounting bolts - arrows -. Refer to => [ Subframe Mount Overview ] Subframe Mount Overview.

- Remove (10 - 222 A) from engine.

- Check the selector lever cable adjustment and adjust if necessary. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Check and Adjust if Necessary ] Selector Lever Cable, Check and Adjust if Necessary.

- Install the air guide and coupling.

- Install battery carrier and battery.

- Install the air filter housing.

- Refer to => [ Transmission Fluid, Checking and Filling ] Transmission Fluid, Checking and Filling.

- Check status of coolant.

Transmission Installation Tightening Specifications

The tightening specifications apply only to lightly greased, oiled, phosphated or blackened nuts and bolts.

Additional lubricant such as engine or transmission oil may be used, but do not use graphite lubricant.

Do not use any ungreased parts.

Tightening specification tolerance: ± 15%.
