Divided Backrest







Divided Backrest

Removing and installing the right 2/3 split backrest is described. It is similar for the left 1/3 backrest.

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Trim Removal Wedge (3409)

Removing

- Remove the seat bench. Refer to => [ Bench Seat ] Bench Seat.

- Remove the center rear belt end fitting. Refer to => [ Rear Right Seat Belt Latch with Center Rear Belt Anchor ] Rear Right Seat Belt Latch With Center Rear Belt Anchor.

- Vehicles equipped with backrest heating: disconnect the backrest heating harness connector

Versions with rear seat belt tensioner igniter:

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components.

Follow all regulations when disposing of pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, Storing, Transporting and Disposing ] Service Precautions.

- Turn on the ignition.

- Disconnect the battery ground cable from the battery with the ignition on.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

- Disconnect electrical connectors.






- Push connector lock - 2 - to stop - arrow -; this disconnects electrical connection - 1 - and - 3 - and it can be removed.

All vehicles:






- Remove the center bracket cover - 5 - => [ Center Storage Compartment Cover ] Center Storage Compartment Cover.

- Remove the screw - 4 -.

- Remove the securing bracket - 3 - from the center bracket.

- Release the backrest.

- Remove the backrest - 1 - from the center bracket - 2 -.

- Remove the rear seat backrest out of the outer bracket toward the center of vehicle.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Versions with rear seat belt tensioner igniter:

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

Make sure the wires do not get caught.

Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on.
