• Counter Hold Tool (T10355)
• Transmission Support (T40173)
• Engine Support Adapter (10 - 222 A /3)
• Spindle (10 - 222 A /11)
Procedure
- Position the front wheels so they are straight.
Risk of destroying electronic components when disconnecting the battery.
• Observe measures for disconnecting battery.
- Disconnect the Ground (GND) cable - 2 - from the battery post.
- Carefully remove the engine cover in the direction of the - arrow - from the bolt. Do not remove the engine cover on one side or in a jerking manner.
- Install the (10 - 222 A) with (10 - 222 A /3) on the left and right strut towers, as shown in the illustration.
- Attach the (10 - 222 A /11) to the engine lifting eyes.
- Remove the left and right drive axle cover - 1 - inside the wheel housing.
- Remove the noise insulation.
- Remove the bolts and then remove the right drive axle heat shield - 1 -.
- Remove the left and right drive axles from the transmission flange shafts.
- Remove the steering intermediate shaft from the steering gear and push it upward.
The suspension components could be damaged.
• Do not rest the vehicle on its wheels if the subframe mount, the steering gear or the subframe crossbrace are not installed correctly.
A4 all, A5 Coupe
- Remove the subframe crossbrace.
Audi A5 Cabriolet:
- Remove the left and right bolts - 1 and 2 - and remove the diagonal brace.
- Remove the subframe crossbrace.
All Vehicles:
- Remove the lower cover - 1 - from the transmission - arrow -.
- Counterhold the crankshaft at the vibration damper using the (T10355) to loosen the drive plate bolts.
• Ignore - arrow -.
- Remove the 3 drive plate bolts - arrow - while turning the crankshaft 120° further in the direction of engine rotation.
• Place a cloth underneath to soak up any escaping ATF.
- Remove the bolts - arrow - and disconnect ATF pipes from the transmission.
- Seal any open pipes and connections with a clean plug from the (VAS 6122).
- Remove the transmission/engine bolts - 8 through 11 -.
- Remove the ball socket - 1 - on the selector lever cable from the selector shaft lever using the (80 - 200).
- Remove the bolts - 2 - from the cable mounting bracket.
- Free up the selector lever cable.
• Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.
There is a risk of destroying the transmission control module (Mechatronic) with static discharge.
• Always "discharge" the static electricity. Do this by touching a grounded object, for example vehicle ground, the vehicle or the hoist.
• Do not touch contacts in the transmission connector with hands.
- Disconnect the connector on transmission by rotating screw connections counter-clockwise - arrow -.
- Remove the bolt - 2 -.
- Press the retaining strap - 1 - in the direction of the - arrow B - and move it toward the rear - arrow A -.
- Position the (V.A.G 1383 A) and the (T40173) under the transmission and secure it with the tensioning strap - 1 - as illustrated.
• The (T40173) is not illustrated.
- Remove the bolts from the tunnel crossmember - arrows -.
- Next, lower the transmission (V.A.G 1383 A) to the dimension - a -.
• Dimension - a - = 60 mm.
- Slightly pretension both (10 - 222 A /11).
- Remove the remaining bolts - 1 through 7 - that attach the engine to the transmission.
• The bolt - 2 - attaches the starter to the transmission and has an additional spacer sleeve - arrow -.
• The spacer sleeve must be inserted between the starter and the transmission.
- Remove the starter from the transmission and leave it in the installation position.
- Press the transmission off the engine and lower it carefully using the (V.A.G 1383 A).
