Front Subframe Mount: Service and Repair
Subframe Bonded Rubber Bushing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Thrust plate (VW 401)
• Thrust plate (VW 402)
• Punch (VW 412)
• Thrust piece (3416/1)
• Shop press (V.A.G 1290 A)
• Assembly tool (T10205)
• Assembly tool (T10301)
- Remove subframe. Refer to => [ Subframe ] Front Suspension.
• Pressing bearings out and in is performed using (V.A.G 1290 A).
• For pressing bearings out and in, a second mechanic is required to hold the subframe.
Pressing Out Front Bearing (Aluminum)
- Install tools at front bearing (aluminum) as shown in illustration.

Pressing In Front Bearing (Aluminum)
- Note installation position of front bearing
The tab - 1 - on the front bearing must line up with the opening - 2 -.
- Install tools at front bearing (aluminum) as shown in illustration.

- Press front bearing (aluminum) into subframe until stop.
Pressing Out Front Bearing (Bonded Rubber Bushing)
- Install tools at front bearing (bonded rubber bushing) as shown in illustration.

Pressing In Front Bearing (Bonded Rubber Bushing)
- Note installation position of bearing.
The tab - 1 - on the front bearing must line up with the opening - 2 -.
• Illustration shows aluminum bearing. Installation position is the same as for bonded rubber bushing.
- Install tools at front bearing (bonded rubber bushing) as shown in illustration.

5. Sleeve (T10205/5)
6. (VW 402)
7. (VW 401)
- Press front bearing (bonded rubber bushing) into subframe until stop.
Pressing Out Rear Bearing
- Install tools at rear bearing as shown in illustration.

5. (VW 402)
6. (VW 401)
Pressing In Rear Bearing
- Note installation position of bearing.
• The tab - 1 - on the rear bearing must line up with the opening - 2 -.
- Install tools at rear bearing as shown in illustration.

- Press rear bearing into subframe until stop.
