Rear Side Airbag Deactivation

Deactivating

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051B)

CAUTION!
Note safety precautions for working on airbags and side airbags. Refer to => [ Airbag System General Safety Precautions ] Airbag System General Safety Precautions and => [ Side Airbag Additional Safety Precautions ] Side Airbag Additional Safety Precautions.

- Switch on ignition.

To remove the airbag, battery must be disconnected with the ignition switched on, this deviates from the description "disconnecting and connecting battery".

- Remove luggage compartment floor trim.





- Disconnect battery ground strap - arrow -.

- Remove the rear bench seat. Refer to => [ Bench Seat ] Bench Seat.

Left and right side airbags can we switched off individually.

There is a connection for left and right each in "C-pillar".

CAUTION!
Before disconnecting connectors, technician must discharge electrostatic energy. To do this, briefly touch door lock, for example.

- Press catch - 2 - and disconnect connector - 1 - in - direction of arrow -.





- Secure loose connectors with cable ties.

- Install the rear bench seat.

CAUTION!
When connecting the battery, ensure there are no people in the vehicle.

- Connect battery ground strap.

- Follow measures after connecting battery.

- Perform the rear side airbag deactivation program in "Guided Fault Finding". The respective adaptation program must be carried out.

- Fill out the registration card and send it to the responsible distributor or importer. Place page 3 of registration card in customer's vehicle wallet.

Deactivated Rear Side Airbag Label

- Place sticker for deactivated side airbag - 1 - on left and right at door frame - 2 - of rear doors - arrow -.





- If several stickers must be affixed in a particular country, place these over stickers marked in illustration.

- Perform the rear side airbag deactivation program in "Guided Fault Finding". The respective adaptation program must be carried out.

- Fill out the registration card and send it to the responsible distributor or importer. Place page 3 of registration card in customer's vehicle wallet.

- Switch on ignition.

- Cut through connector cable ties.

- Insert side airbag connector - 1 -.





- Insert connectors into rear bench seat upholstery cut-out.

- Install the rear bench seat. Refer to => [ Bench Seat ] Bench Seat.

- Remove switched-off side airbag sticker from rear door frame.

- Remove remaining adhesive from door frame with cleaning solution.

CAUTION!
When connecting the battery, ensure there are no people in the vehicle.

- Connect battery ground strap.

- Follow measures after connecting battery.

- Carry out rear side airbag activation program in "Guided Fault Finding". The respective adaptation program must be carried out.

- Fill out the registration card and send it to the responsible distributor or importer. Remove page 3 of registration card from customer's vehicle wallet.
