Upper Transverse Link
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque wrench (V.A.G 1332)
• Due to the inaccessibility of the inner threaded connection - 1 -, the upper control arm can only be removed when the subframe has been removed.
Removing
- Remove subframe on vehicles with front-wheel drive (FWD). Refer to => [ Subframe with Attachments ] .
- Remove subframe on vehicles with all-wheel drive (AWD). Refer to => [ Subframe with Attachments ] Subframe with Attachments.
- Mark the position of the eccentric bolt - 2 - the wheel bearing housing, for example using a felt-tip pen.
- Separate connections - 1 - and - 2 -.
- Remove upper transverse link.
Installing
• Replace the bolts and the self-locking nuts.
Installation position of control arm at subframe
- Screw control arm - 3 - onto threaded connection - 1 - hand-tight.
- Lay a ruler or straight edge - 1 - flat against the subframe - arrows -.
- Position control arm so that dimension - a - = 64 mm +/- 1 mm is obtained.
- Tighten control arm in this position to subframe item - 1 -.
- Screw wheel bearing housing on control arm and tighten new nut to 20 Nm. Note the installation position of the centering washer - 2 -.
- Install subframe on vehicles with front-wheel drive (FWD). Refer to => [ Subframe with Attachments ] .
- Install subframe on vehicles with all-wheel drive (AWD). Refer to => [ Subframe with Attachments ] Subframe with Attachments.
- Loosen the threaded connection - 1 -.
Affect Vehicles with Coil Springs
- Lift the wheel bearing hub into curb weight position. Refer to => [ Wheel Bearing, with Coil Spring, Lifting to Curb Weight Position ] Wheel Bearing, with Coil Spring, Lifting to Curb Weight Position and tighten the threaded connection - 1 -.
Affects Vehicles with Air Suspension
- Lift the wheel bearing hub into the alignment control position. Refer to => [ Wheel Bearing, with Air Suspension, Lifting to Curb Weight Position ] Wheel Bearing, with Air Suspension, Lifting to Curb Weight Position and tighten the threaded connection - 1 -.
Affects All Vehicles
Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Trapezoidal Control Arm, Upper Control Arm, Tie Rod, Coil Spring and Level Control System Sensor Assembly Overview ] Trapezoidal Control Arm, Upper Control Arm, Tie Rod, Coil Spring and Level Control System Sensor Assembly Overview.
- Perform an axle alignment. Refer to => [ Wheel Alignment ] Wheel Alignment.
• The axle alignment must be performed on a VW/Audi approved alignment stand.
