Selector Lever Cable

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Pry lever (80-200)

• Socket and key (T40031)

Removing





- Place the selector lever in the "D" position.

- Unclip the mounting frame for selector lever boot - 1 - from the center console and lift it upward and off - arrows -.

- Through the opening - arrow - in the shift mechanism, loosen the bolt on the selector lever cable approximately one turn using socket and key (T40031).





• Only loosen the clamping screw, do not remove it.

• The clamping screw is only accessible in the selector lever position "D".

• The selector lever must remain in the "D" position while the clamping screw is loose.

- Remove the rear crossmember bolts - arrows - crossmember.





- Remove the rear noise insulation by loosening the fasteners - 2 - and, if equipped the - arrow -.





- Remove front crossmember bolts - arrows - crossmember.





- Remove the driveshaft:

- Loosen the left and right floor panel covers on the inner side.





- Remove the heat shield - arrow -.

- Mark the installation position of the bracket for the selector lever cable.





- Press the selector lever cable ball joint - 1 - off from the selector shaft lever.

- Remove the bolts - arrow - for the selector lever cable bracket.

• Take care not to bend or kink the selector lever cable.

- Remove lock washers - 1 -.





- Remove the noise insulation - 2 - and slide forward.

• Disregard - items 3 and 4 -.

- Remove the selector lever circlip - 1 -.





- Remove the selector lever cable - 2 - from the shift mechanism.

Installing

Install in the reverse order, paying attention to the following:

• Replace the noise insulation locking washers.

• Lightly grease the eyelet and ball socket of the selector lever cable with polycarbamide grease (G 052 142 A2) before installing.

- Slide the noise insulation - 2 - over the opening on the selector lever cable - 3 -.





- Replace the O-ring - 1 - on the selector lever cable.





- Slide the selector lever cable - 2 - into the shift mechanism - arrow -.

- Secure the selector lever cable - 2 - with circlip - 3 -.

• Installation position: Angled end of circlip faces toward the shift mechanism.





- Secure the noise insulation to the shift mechanism with four new lock washers - 1 -.





- Install the selector lever bracket to the transmission according to the markings.

- Adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable Adjusting, from 12.05 ] Procedures.

- Check the shift mechanism. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism Checking ] Procedures.

- Install driveshaft:

- Reconnect the exhaust system and ensure it is not under stress.

- Install the rear crossmember. Refer to => [ Tunnel Crossmember ] Tunnel Crossmember.

- Install the front crossmember.
