Upper A-Pillar Trim







Upper A-Pillar Trim

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Trim removal wedge (3409)

CAUTION!
Observe safety precautions for working on head-level airbags. Refer to => [ Side Curtain Additional Airbag Safety Precautions ] Side Curtain Additional Airbag Safety Precautions.

There are two versions of upper A-pillar trim fasteners.

The first version (approximately through introduction of Avant) is described first.





1 Upper A-pillar Trim

Removing

- Carefully pry upper A-pillar trim - 1 - up at side curtain airbag clip - 2 - clip with hook as far as stop using (3409).

- Pry out clips - 4 - in center and lower area of upper A-pillar trim - 1 - using (3409).

- Carefully slide upper A-pillar trim - 1 - upward (the side curtain airbag clip - 2 - is slid into keyhole-shaped cut-out) and remove upper A-pillar trim - 1 - from bar piece - 6 - and retaining spring - 5 -.

Installing

- Check side curtain airbag clip - 2 - for damage or deformity.

If side curtain airbag clip - 2 - is damaged or deformed, upper A-pillar trim must be replaced.

- Check clips - 4 - (quantity: 2) for damage and deformity.

If clips - 4 - are damaged or deformed, they must be replaced.

- Before installing upper A-pillar trim - 1 -, make sure side curtain airbag clip - 2 - and clamps - 4 - are positioned correctly.

Always follow upper A-pillar trim - 1 - installation sequence:

CAUTION!
When installing upper A-pillar trim - 1 -, do not connect the side curtain airbag - 3 -.

- Slide upper A-pillar trim - 1 - in between bar piece - 6 - and retaining spring - 5 -. Refer to => [ Bar Piece ] Bar Piece.

- Clip upper A-pillar trim - 1 - in beginning at bottom with clamps - 4 - (quantity: 2) and side curtain airbag clip - 2 -.

Ensure upper A-pillar trim - 1 - is held securely.

- Install door seal lip over upper A-pillar trim - 1 -.

2 Side Curtain Airbag Clip

Replace D-pillar trim if damaged or deformed

3 Side Curtain Airbag

4 Clamps

Quantity: 2

Replace if damaged or deformed

5 Retaining Spring

=> [ (Item 6) Bar Piece ]

1 Upper A-pillar Trim

Removing

- Pry out clips - 4 - in lower area of upper A-pillar trim - 1 - using (3409).

- Carefully pry upper A-pillar trim - 1 - up at clips - 2 - (quantity: 2) clips with hook as far as stop using (3409).

- Carefully slide upper A-pillar trim - 1 - upward (the clips - 2 - (quantity: 2) are slid into keyhole-shaped cut-out) and remove upper A-pillar trim - 1 - from bar piece - 6 - and retaining spring - 5 -.

Installation is performed in reverse sequence of removal, thereby noting the following:

- Check clips - 2 - (quantity: 2) for damage and deformity.

If clips - 2 - are damaged or deformed, upper A-pillar trim must be replaced.

- Check clamp - 4 - for damage or deformity.

A damaged or deformed clip - 4 - must be replaced.

- Before installing upper A-pillar trim - 1 -, ensure clips - 2 - and - 4 - are positioned correctly.

CAUTION!
Do not connect side curtain airbag when installing upper A-pillar trim - 1 -.

Ensure upper A-pillar trim - 1 - is held securely.

- Install door seal lip over upper A-pillar trim - 1 -.

2 Clamps

Quantity: 2

Replace D-pillar trim if damaged or deformed

3 Side Curtain Airbag

4 Clips

Replace if damaged or deformed

5 Retaining Spring
