Restrictor
Restrictor
• Only install a red restrictor on this vehicle. The color may also appear orange depending on the manufacturer.
• Differently colored replacement restrictors (restrictor "yellow" colored, diameter of bore/constriction 1.54 mm, restrictor "red" colored, diameter of bore/constriction 1.42 mm), therefore heed assignment (different matching of refrigerant circuit).
• Refrigerant lines from evaporator to compressor/reservoir are available in different versions, depending on vehicle model.
Removing
- Drain the refrigerant circuit.
- Disconnect refrigerant line at threaded connection - A - (seal open connections).
- Pull restrictor - B - out of refrigerant line using needle nose pliers.
Installing
• Only install restrictors of same type; restrictors with different colors have different bore diameters.
- Check O-ring - C - (7.5 mm; 1.5 mm) for correct seating in groove.
- Coat O-ring (of restrictor and at threaded connection) lightly with refrigerant oil before installation => [ Refrigerant Circuit O-Ring Seals ] Refrigerant Circuit O-Ring Seals.
- Install restrictor - B - accurate to side (arrow on restrictor faces evaporator).
- Check seating of restrictor, it must seat in refrigerant line free of play
- Replace the O-ring - D -.
- Install refrigerant pipes such that they are not strained.
- Tighten the threaded connection - A -.
• Tightening specification: 15 Nm.
• Check position of refrigerant pipes after tightening union. Pipes must not make contact with other components.
- Evacuate and re-charge refrigerant circuit.
- Check the DTC memory for the Climatronic Control Module (J255) A/C control head and erase any faults displayed if necessary.
- Operate the A/C system after filling the refrigerant circuit => [ A/C System, Operating after Filling Refrigerant Circuit ] A/C System, Operating after Filling Refrigerant Circuit
