Shift Mechanism Function Unit
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Pry Lever - Remove Outside Mirror (80 - 200)
Removing
- Remove rear crossmember - arrows -.
- Remove front crossmember - arrows -.
- Remove left and right vehicle floor cover - 1 -.
- Loosen clamping sleeves - 1 - and - 2 -.
• Flex joint in front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10°, otherwise it may be damaged.
- Remove bolts - 1 - and - 2 - at front exhaust pipe rear bracket.
• Disregard item - 3 -.
- Tie left and right exhaust system pipes up to body - arrows -.
- Remove heat shield - arrow -.
- Remove rear noise insulation by loosening fasteners - 2 - and, if equipped, - arrow -.
- Mark installation position of support bracket for selector lever cable.
- Remove bolt - 1 - support bracket for selector lever cable.
- Press selector lever cable ball socket - A - off selector shaft lever using Pry Lever - Remove Outside Mirror (80 - 200).
• Take care not to bend or kink selector lever cable.
- Remove rear and front center console.
- Disconnect electrical connectors - 2 - and - 4 -.
- Remove bolts - 1 -, - 3 -, - 5 - and - 6 -.
• A second technician is required when detaching shift mechanism below vehicle.
- Press retaining clamps - arrows - inward and lower selector mechanism downward.
Installing
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:
• Lightly grease ball socket of selector lever cable with polycarbamide grease (G 052 142 A2) before installing.
• Take care not to bend or kink selector lever cable.
- Install selector lever bracket according to marking on console.
- Adjust selector lever cable => [ Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting ] Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting.
- Reconnect exhaust system and ensure it is not under stress.
- Install rear crossbrace.
- Install front crossbrace
- Install rear and front center console.
- Check shift mechanism => [ Selector Mechanism, Checking ] 01J Continuously Variable Transmission.
