Multi Media Interface

General Information

The MMI includes the following: control modules, an external audio source connection, a DVD drive, the navigation system (with a hard drive disc) and a voice recognition system. All these are integrated in the information electronics control module 1 (J794).

The radio/ DVD changer (R161) and the digital sound system control module (J525) are connected externally via the MOST bus. The basis sound systems are controlled directly by the radio.

Fault finding is performed via "Guided Fault Finding" in the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

Notes on MOST bus

The optical data bus "MOST bus" is used in addition to the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus.

A fiber optic cable is used as a "connecting cable". Fiber optic cables are routed inside corrugated tubes for protection.

Replace the complete fiber optic cable if possible.

The front surface of the connectors must not be dirty.

If the connectors are disconnected: Install the protective cap for cable connector (VAS 6223/9).

When installing fiber optic cables, make sure not to go below the minimum bending radius of 25 mm. Do not crush or kink fiber optic cables.
