Brake Pads
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)
• Piston resetting tool (T10145)
• Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 505 x)
Removing
• When removing, mark brake pads that will be used again. Install in the same position, otherwise braking effect will be uneven!
• Operating the electromechanical parking brake after a long drive is recommended.
- Raise vehicle.
- Remove wheels.
Start the program in Guided Functions on the (VAS 505 x) if the brake pads were replaced.
- Turn off the ignition and connect the (VAS 5051 x) to the 16-pin diagnostic connection.
• Switch on ignition
• parking brake released
• Coding check and reported if necessary.
• DTC memory interrogated, errors shown corrected and DTC memory erased.
- Start the program in Guided Functions.
- Remove the electrical connection for the electromechanical parking brake from the retainer.
- Remove attachment bolts from brake caliper housing, counter-hold guide pins to do so.
• Remove the brake pad wear display contact from the clip in the inner brake pad - 9 - before removing the brake caliper.
- Remove the brake pad wear display contact form the clip inside the inner brake pad.
• Do not disconnect the electrical connection from the motor.
- Remove the brake caliper.
- Hang the brake caliper on the body using a suitable wire.
Do not let the brake caliper with the brake carrier hang on the brake hose. Do not support the weight with the brake hose.
Do not actuate the brakes or the electromechanical parking brake when the brake caliper is removed.
- Remove the clip for the brake pad wear display contact wire from the inner brake pad.
- Remove the pads from the brake carrier.
- Remove the brake pads from the brake caliper.
- Press pistons back with (T10145)
Installing
• Clean brake caliper with mineral spirits exclusively.
Use new bolts - 5 -. Allocation, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
- Install the brake pad springs - 10 -.
• Make sure the brake pad spring is installed correctly.
- Insert brake pads in brake carrier.
• Make sure the brake pads are seated in the brake pad springs - arrows -.
- Guide the brake pad wear display contact through the brake caliper.
- Install the clip for the brake pad wear contact in the inner brake pad.
- Install the contact in the clip - direction of arrow -.
- Push the brake caliper over the installed brake pads.
- Secure brake caliper housing using new self-locking bolts.
• The repair kit includes four self-locking hex bolts which must be installed in all cases.
• Make sure the brake hose is routed correctly. Make sure the brake hose is not blocked, bent or rubbing against the vehicle.
- Install the connector for the electromechanical parking brake into the bracket.
• Make sure the contact for the brake pad wear display fits correctly in the clip inside the inner brake pad.
Start the program in Guided Functions on the (VAS 505 x) if the brake pads were replaced.
- Turn off the ignition and connect the (VAS 505 x) to the 16-pin diagnostic connection.
• Switch on ignition
• parking brake released
• Coding check and reported if necessary.
• DTC memory interrogated, errors shown corrected and DTC memory erased.
- Start the program in Guided Functions.
• After installing, press the brake pedal several times firmly to properly seat brake pads in their normal operating position.
• Make sure the brakes are working correctly before driving the vehicle for the first time.
