1 Mounting Bracket for Pedal Assembly

4 Washer
5 Gas Pedal Module Bolt
• 8 Nm
6 Accelerator Pedal Module
7 Pedal Bracket Bolt to the Steering
• 20 Nm
8 Brake Lamp Switch (F)
- Removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Lamp Switch ] Service and Repair.
9 Stop
If possible, leave the brake pedal stop installed; it could break the mount for the brake lamp switch if the brake pedal is released too quickly.
10 Brake Pedal
Brake pedal and brake booster, disconnecting and connecting, refer to => [ Brake Pedal and Brake Booster, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Brake Pedal and Brake Booster, Disconnecting and Connecting.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Pedal ] Brake Pedal.
If possible, leave the brake pedal stop installed; it could break the mount for the brake lamp switch if the brake pedal is released too quickly.
11 Ball Socket formed in Mount
• For ball head of brake servo push rod.
12 Mount for the Brake Booster Plunger
• For ball head of brake servo push rod.
• With ball stud retaining tabs.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Brake Booster Plunger Mount ] Brake Booster Plunger Mount.
13 Mounting Pin Bolt
• The bolt holds the mounting pins in position.
• 8 Nm
14 Left Securing Clip (Spring Steel)
Allocation, refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog.
15 Nut
• 8 Nm
Removing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)
• Spring compressor (V.A.S 5122)
• Release tool (T40168 A) for brake lamp switch
• Release tool (T40136)
• Disconnect brake pedal from brake booster. Refer to => [ Brake Pedal and Brake Booster, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Brake Pedal and Brake Booster, Disconnecting and Connecting.
• Remove the plenum chamber cover.
• Remove the tower brace.
• Remove the plenum chamber bulkhead.
• Remove the bolts - 8 - from the brake booster bracket.
• Move the seat all the way back as far as it will go.
• Switch ignition off.
• Remove the storage compartment under the instrument panel on the driver side.
• Disconnect the connector - A - from the left footwell vent temperature sensor (G261) - B -.
• Remove the bolt - D -.
• Remove the footwell vent - E -.
• Disconnect the connector from the brake lamp switch (F).
- Remove the brake lamp switch - 8 -. Refer to => [ Brake Lamp Switch ] Service and Repair.
- Remove the nuts - 15 -.
- Disconnect the connector from the accelerator pedal module - 6 -.
- Remove the steering.
- Remove the bracket, with the brake pedal still installed, from the vehicle.
• Remove both clips - 1 -.
- Remove both locking springs - 1 - from the bolt - 5 -.
- Loosen bolt - 3 -.
- Remove the bolt - 5 - from the brake pedal - 2 - and bracket - 4 -.
- Remove the brake pedal from the bracket.
If possible, leave the brake pedal stop installed; it could break the mount for the brake lamp switch if the brake pedal is released too quickly.
- Remove the accelerator pedal module.
Installing
- Install the accelerator pedal module (8 Nm).
- Install the brake pedal in the pedal bracket.
- Remove the bolt - 5 - through the brake pedal - 2 - and bracket - 4 -.
- Install both clips - 1 - on the bolt.
• Make sure the left and right clips - 1 - fit securely inside the groove on the bolt.
- Install the bolt - 3 - and tighten to 8 Nm.
- Install the pedal bracket, with the brake pedal installed, and the accelerator pedal module.
- The pedal bracket must fit into the guides in the wall.
• First install the bolts from the brake booster to the mounting bracket and tighten them.
Install the tighten the bolts - 8 - for the brake booster bracket.
- Install the tighten the nuts - 15 - to 8 Nm.
- Install the steering.
- Connect the connector to the accelerator pedal module - 6 -.
Clip the brake pedal to the brake booster.
- Hold ball head of push rod in front of mounting and push brake pedal in direction of brake booster, so the ball head locates audibly.
- Install the brake lamp switch. Refer to => [ Brake Lamp Switch ] Service and Repair
- Install the footwell vent - E -.
- Install and tighten the bolt - D -.
- Connect the connector - A - to the left footwell vent temperature sensor - B -.
- Install the storage compartment under the instrument panel on the driver side.
- Install the plenum chamber bulkhead.
- Install the tower brace.
- Install plenum chamber cover.
• Make sure the brake lamp switch is working correctly before driving the vehicle.
• Make sure the brakes are working correctly before driving the vehicle for the first time.
