Fuel Level Sensor (G), Checking
Fuel Level Sensor (G), Checking
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Multimeter (V.A.G 1526E)
• Connector Test Set (V.A.G 1594C)
• Scissors
Procedure
- Move the right front seat all the way forward.
- Remove the rear bench seat or the lower seat frame/rear seat backrest.
- Cut the insulation mat near the locking flange cover along the perforation with scissors and fold it to the side.
- Remove the bolts - arrows - and remove the locking flange cover - 1 -.
- Disconnect the connector - 1 - on the locking flange.
• Ignore - 2 -.
Checking the Fuel Level Sensor when Installed
- Connect the multimeter to measure the resistance between contacts - 1 and 2 -.
• Sensor at lower stop: 255 to 281 ohms.
• Sensor at upper stop: Maximum 70 ohms.
- Connect the multimeter to measure the resistance between contacts - 1 and 3 -.
• Sensor at lower stop: 59 to 85 ohms.
• Sensor at upper stop: Lowest 270 ohms.
- Connect the multimeter to measure the resistance between contacts - 2 and 3 -.
• Any sensor position: 335 to 345 ohms.
• If measured value is 0 ohms there is a short circuit. If measured value is there an open circuit in the wiring.
• With fuel level sensor removed, the following values are obtained because of the greater deflection of the floater arm:

- Connect the multimeter to measure the resistance between contacts - 1 and 2 -.
• Sensor at lower stop: approximately 278 ohms.
• Sensor at upper stop: approximately 65.5 ohms.
- Connect the multimeter to measure the resistance between contacts - 1 and 3 -.
• Sensor at lower stop: approximately 62 ohms.
• Sensor at upper stop: approximately 274.5 ohms.
- Connect the multimeter to measure the resistance between contacts - 2 and 3 -.
• Any sensor position: 335 to 345 ohms.
- Replace the fuel level sensor if there is a large deviation in the measured value from 0 ohms (short circuit) or measured value infinity ohms (open circuit) and if no faults are found in the electric wire.
- Install the fuel level sensor. Refer to => [ Fuel Level Sensor (G) ] Fuel Level Sensor (G).
