Electronic Steering Column Lock Control Module (J764)

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (V.A.G 1410)

Removing

If replacing the control module, select "replace" in "Guided Functions" on the appropriate control module.

Use the vehicle diagnostic tester.

Now follow the instructions on the screen.

- Remove the steering column. Refer to => [ Steering Column ] Steering Column.

- Remove bolt - 1 -.






- Slightly lift the electronic steering column lock control module - 2 - and removed it from the steering column in direction of - arrow -.

After removing the control module, make sure no dirt or foreign objects enter the steering column.

Installing






Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Steering Column Overview ] Steering Column Overview

If only the electronic steering column lock control module (J764) was replaced, used the previously used control module bolt.

If the steering column was replaced, then remove the protective cover and use the bolts in the new steering column for the electronic steering column lock control module.

- Insert the electronic steering column lock control module so that the tab - 1 - fits into the groove - arrow - on the steering column - 2 - and then push the electronic steering column lock control module by hand onto the steering column.

- Install the bolt and tighten it once the electronic steering column lock control module - 1 - is touching the surface of the steering column - item 6 - => [ (Item 6) Bolt ] Steering Column Overview.

If the same steering column and the same electronic steering column lock control module are being installed, then it is not necessary to adapt the electronic steering column lock control module again.

If the electronic steering column lock control module was replaced, then it must be reprogrammed.

- Vehicle diagnostic tester connect and perform vehicle-specific entry into Guided Fault Finding.

- Select the corresponding program in "Guided Functions".

- Now follow the instructions on the screen.
