Rear Emergency Release Cable and Parking Lock

Removing

The vehicle could start to roll and cause an accident.

Press the button on the parking brake to activate it.

Check the vehicle data label or the designation on the rear final drive itself to determine which one is installed in the vehicle. Then select the correct rear final drive repair information.

- Remove the driveshaft.






- Remove the left and right front mufflers.






- Release the retainers - arrows A - and slide the sleeve - 1 - in direction of - arrow B -.






- Disconnect the rear emergency release cable from the front emergency release cable - arrow C -.

- Remove the rear emergency release cable - 2 - from the bracket - 3 -.






- Remove the center heat shield - 1 - from the tunnel..

- Remove the rear emergency release cable - 3 - from the bracket - 2 -.






- Remove the driver seat.






- Remove the floor mat.

- Remove the front sill panel on the driver side..

- Pry off the cover - 1 - for the emergency release and remove it - arrows -.






- Move the floor covering inside the front driver footwell to the side and remove the cover - 1 - for the emergency release through the opening in the floor covering.

- Remove the nuts - 1 and 2 -.






- Remove the cable tie - A -.

- Pull the rubber grommet - 4 - toward the inside.

- Guide the rear emergency release cable - 3 - through the hole in the tunnel toward the inside, opposite the direction of the - arrow -, and remove it.

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

For the correct tightening specifications, refer to => [ Parking Lock Emergency Release Overview ] Parking Lock Emergency Release Overview.

- Guide the rear emergency release cable - 3 - through the hole in the tunnel, in direction of the - arrow -, and route it as illustrated.






- Fasten the rear emergency release cable to the grounding point - A - with a cable tie.

- Tighten the nuts - 1 and 2 -.

Pay attention to the tightening specification otherwise the stud bolts will break off.

- Install the rubber grommet - 4 - into the hole in the tunnel.

The rubber grommet - 4 - and the rubber plug - 5 - on the opposite side of the tunnel must be installed correctly, otherwise water will get into the vehicle interior.

- Attach the rear emergency release cable - 3 - into the bracket - 2 - - arrow -.






The lip on the rubber grommet - 1 - must seal the hole all the way around.

- Install the center heat shield - 1 -..






- Engage the rear emergency release cable - 2 - into the bracket - 3 - on the heat shield - 1 - - arrow -. Attach the bracket - 3 - to the heat shield if necessary.

- Attach the rear emergency release cable - 2 - to the front emergency release cable - 1 - from the top - arrow A -






- Install the sleeve - 3 - until it engages - arrow B - and then check to make sure it is secure.

- Install the front sill panel..

- Install the driver seat.

- Install the front muffler.

Check the vehicle data label or the designation on the rear final drive itself to determine which one is installed in the vehicle. Then select the correct rear final drive repair information.

- Install the driveshaft.

- Check the parking lock emergency release. Refer to => [ Parking Lock Emergency Release, Operating and Checking ] Parking Lock Emergency Release, Operating and Checking.
