Rear Lid Hinge






1 Rear lid

The rear lid motor 1 (V444) , on the left side, must be removed first, depending on the equipment level. Refer to => [ Rear Lid Motor Assembly Overview ] Rear Lid Motor Assembly Overview.

Removing

- Remove the nuts on the rear lid.

- Remove the screws over the rear shelf and the hinge.

Installing:

- Insert the hinge under the rear shelf and secure it lightly using the bolts.

- Slide the hinge in just far enough until it can be secured in the holes with two 7.5 mm drill bits.

- Tighten the hinge bolts - 3 - to the tightening specification.

- Position the lid on the hinge and secure it using the nuts.

- Engage the spring and the gas-filled strut.

- Close the lid carefully.

- Align the lid sideways and lengthwise.

- Tighten the nuts on the rear lid and the bolts on the body side.

- Install the hinge and secure it in the two 7.5 mm securing holes - arrows -.

- Install the hinge bolts and tighten them.

Lid Hinge Cable Guide, Removing






1 Cable guide

- Remove the expanding clip.

- Unclip the retaining tabs - arrows - and remove the cable guide from the lid hinge.

Gas-Filled Strut, Removing and Installing






1 Gas strut

- Remove the side trim panel.

- Lift the spring - arrows - with a small screwdriver and remove the gas-filled strut from the ball pin.

- The gas-filled strut tube must be engaged on the hinge side.

- Install the gas-filled strut at an angle, with the spring tube mounted on the ball pin, and then clip it in while slightly turning it at the same time.

- Install the gas-filled strut at an angle, with the ball socket attached to the ball pin, and then clip it in while slightly turning it at the same time.

Gas-Filled Strut, Disengaging






- Lift the retaining springs - arrow - on the gas-filled strut - 1 - slightly using a small screwdriver and remove it from the ball stud - 2 -.

Gas-Filled Strut, Releasing Gas






- Clamp gas-filled strut in a vise in area - x - = 50 mm (2 in.).

Clamp only within this area, otherwise accident could occur!

Wear protective eye wear when sawing.

Cover area of sawn portion with a rag to absorb oil spraying out.

- Cut open cylinder of gas strut within first third of cylinder overall length, using piston rod end of cylinder as a reference point.

Engaging:

The side trim panel is removed.

- With the lid closed, engage the spring first on the hinge side and then on the body side.

- Install the spring to the bolt and to the bracket so that the rounded end faces up. This applies to both sides of the vehicle.

Pay attention to the attachment point on the body

- Push the attachment piece - 2 - onto the spring - 1 - so that 5 coils - a - remain on the bracket - 3 -.
