Trim, Tunnel Side
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Seat Repair Stand (VAS6136)
• Removal and installation can only be performed with the front seat removed.
Removing
• Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components.
• Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
- Remove the front seat:
• Standard seat and Sport seat (manually adjustable) as well as front folding seat - passenger seat, refer to => [ Manual Standard Front Seat ] Manual Standard Front Seat.
• Standard seat, Sport seat (power) and Comfort seat, refer to => [ Power Standard Front Seat ] Power Standard Front Seat.
- Attach the front seat to the (VAS 6136). Refer to => [ Front Seat, Installing on Seat Repair Stand ] Overhaul.
- Remove the front seat belt latch. Refer to => [ Front Belt Latch ] Front Belt Latch.
- Turn the front seat belt latch downward.
• It is not necessary to disconnect or remove the electrical wire.
- Remove expanding clip - 2 -.
- Release the tab - arrow A - and remove the trim - 1 - toward the outside - arrow B -.
- Remove the seat trim on the tunnel side in - direction of arrow C -.
Installation
• Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components.
• Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must discharge static electricity. For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.
Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following:
• Make sure the tab fits correctly.
• Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.
Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.
- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on.
• If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the Vehicle diagnostic tester.
