Generator

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Locking tool (T40098)

Removing






- Turn off the ignition.

- Disconnect the ground cable from the battery. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.


Risk of destroying if the running direction of a used ribbed belt is reversed.

Before removing ribbed belt, marking running direction with chalk or a felt-tip pen for reinstallation.

- Turn the tensioning element clockwise - arrow - to release the tension on the ribbed belt and lock it with the locking tool (T40098).

- Remove ribbed belt.

- Remove upper and lower bolts - arrows - and pivot generator toward front.






- Disconnect the electrical connector - 1 -.






- Remove terminal 30/B+ - 2 -.

- Remove the generator.

Installing






Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Generator without Bushings Overview ] Generator Without Bushings Overview.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

- Position the ribbed belt over pulleys in the specified sequence.

1. Vibration damper

2. Coolant pump

3. Ribbed belt tensioner

4. Generator

5. Power steering pump

6. A/C Compressor


When installing the ribbed belt, make sure it is seated correctly on the belt pulley.

- Connect battery. Required actions, refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.

- Start the engine and check the ribbed belt routing.
