Affected Vehicles

Condition
Customer hears wind noise coming from the top of the vehicle while driving with the roof carrier bars installed.

Technical Background

When the roof carrier bars are installed on the vehicle the acoustic environment in the cabin is predictably affected. The intent of the roof carrier bars is solely for the transport of cargo. When installed an increase in wind noise should be expected.

Production Solution

The wind noise that results from the installation of the carrier bars can be mitigated, although not eliminated, by the installation of "fluted" protection strips, part number 4L0 071 633 A. These are being installed in production and will be included in the carrier bar kit that accompanies the Audi Q5.

Service

1. Remove the "smooth" protection strips.

2. Install "fluted" protection strips.
