Affected Vehicles

Condition
This RVU has been proactively released to prevent the following condition from occurring in the vehicle:

On Audi vehicles with the 3rd-generation Multi Media Interface (MMI) manufactured within a limited period, the MMI display can switch off sporadically above a certain ambient temperature.

This Required Vehicle Update (RVU) is in effect until December 31, 2013. After that date, this RVU will expire and no longer be in effect.

Vehicle must meet all of the following criteria:

^ Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the 91G1 code in the ElsaWeb Campaign/Action Information screen on the day of repair.

^ Vehicle must be within the Limited New Vehicle Warranty.

^ Procedure must be performed within the allotted time frame stated in this Technical Service Bulletin.

^ Procedure must be performed on applicable vehicles in dealer inventory prior to sale.

Software-related issue with MMI display screen.

Improved display hardware.

SERVICE

On the vehicles affected, the software of the MMI must be updated. Feedback documentation to the SVM must then be performed.

1. Update 3G MMI Software

1. Follow steps 1-5 in the attached TSB 2011732 00 Software Version Management (SVM), operating instructions.

Tip: For complete and detailed instructions for the 3G MMI system update, refer to the attached Instructions for MMI 3G Nav. Plus update. (Note: These instructions are generic. Some portions may not apply to this specific TSB. Importing and exporting customer code data is not necessary for this 3G MMI update.)





2. Insert update CD into the 3G MMI main (head) drive unit located in the center of the instrument panel.

3. Start the software update.





4. After the software update has been performed, confirm the "Abort (cancel) documentation" selection.

2. Perform Feedback Documentation Using SVM

1. Follow all instructions in the attached TSB 2011732 00 Software Version Management (SVM), operating instructions. For the feedback documentation use the SVM code printed on the update CD.

Tip: No control unit is flashed as part of the feedback documentation to the SVM. Do not perform any updates of control units. Do not replace any control units.





2. Confirm any proposed parameter settings and coding changes.

3. Perform test program "5F - Information electronics, resetting fault memory" to clear any faults in the system.
